There's another bloody dangerous bit just up and around from top left. Where the road splits towards Walworth and St George's if you wait by the lights to go right those lights will release you into traffic still crossing your path from the left.
Coming the other way FROM St George's it's not apparent (nor signposted) that you need to get over to the left and it's almost impossible anyway with the buses constantly stuffing out so if you're on a bike and want to make it to the New Kent Rd you have a 3-lane gauntlet to run. Can be very tricky. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

How's the Exhibition Road "shared space" experiment working out?
A quick Google implies that it's not working for footists and pedalists.
However, I'm wondering if there's an argument for going full Bombay in some areas of London and letting traffic sort itself out, rather than pushing onwards towards ever greater control and separation, with the inevitable consequences when it fails. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I'm mildly minded to opine that red should mean "give way".
There's a busy crossroads on my commute that flows much better when the lights are broken. People actually take turns. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Bombay all the way, Overload of information and the brain starts blocking and making assumptions based on speculation, and "seeing" is tge second thing after hearing to get the focus overlay treatment.. Usually experienced before running around in a circle repeating comforting actions ...
Are most people driving around one step away from repetitive circling madness? Wow
It strikes me that one guy walked home and the other never got home.. Crash mechanics are so fragile.. Thoughts to his loved ones. ____________________ ybr125 Sold, GSF600 K1 Bandit (For Sale), FJR13000 gen2. |

I imagine the number of footists in London make light controlled junctions necessary. Also, if there are no red lights, how are pedalists expected to ride through them? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I preferred when it was just badly designed, badly signposted and mildly dangerous roadworks. Thanks OP for the heads-up on the traffic light phasing.
Really a big thank you to OP for pointing out phasing cos I occasionally go that way and OMG. There but for the grace of BCF.

I posted about this abortion of a road design in the SE section.
It beggars belief how anything so complex and eye-wateringly dangerous can pass for modern road design. The congestion caused is also twice as bad as it was before they changed it.
