Check the ignition coil. My triple did the exact same thing. Turned out the ignition coil on the first cylinder had ceased working. 30quid or so off the bay cured it.
Looks like this:

I figured it out by accident when I was fiddling with the fuel tap. I caught the lead going in and it suddenly barked into full life. Wiggled it again and it started popping and farting. Reading around they seem to be something of a common failure. ____________________ 1977 Honda CG125

It just so happens that a mate on mine said that the coil pack sounds like its gone. I'm going to try Sandy from Triumphant to see if he has a coil spring and I will also keep the other coul pack and see if I can solider another piece of wire, in case that's the problem.
Thanks everyone for your help, you've been amazing. This is the first time I've signed up to a forum and I wish I did it before, as I would have got out of plenty a situation |

It was number 3 ignition coil that had gone. It has been replaced and she is now flying all over the place. Thank you all for your help.. Very much appreciated, Top Notch |

If it sounds like it is only firing from two cylinders there is a very simple way to check, however, do NOT touch the header pipes to see which ones are hot.
Squirting a bit of water on them and seeing which one doesn't create instant steam would be a less blister creating option. You would also have more sounds to describe.
However, I'm glad that you have solved the problem. Please describe current sounds. |
