Just sorting out insurance for the Enfield for this year.

Got a quote from Bennetts for £106.83 including a £250 excess, which didn't seem so bad.

I just thought I'd check how much the cost goes up if I decrease the excess. If I set the excess to £100, the cost goes to £93.38. Is there just a random number generator ran by a hamster at the Bennetts HQ?

I'm sure they all have the same machine used in the countdown numbers round.

I always set my voluntary excess to zero as it only ever makes a couple of quid of a difference

Statistically those who can afford to reduce their excess are less of a liability then those who realistically have to put the excess up because their policy is so expensive?

Out of interest, what exclusions are there and how does it affect your excess? My quote was made cheaper by declaring I didn't use any security. However, there was no option to declare where the bike was stored whilst at work. The small print now states that if its nicked from anywhere except my locked garage, the excess doubles.

I think they all share the same hamster. Poor Kevin.

Comparison sites are at least now showing TPO vs TPFT vs FC quotes, but they could really ramp it up by pumping in different values of excess and showing the lowest quotes.

Me too. Brick Wall

You know what would be a laugh? Declaring no security, having your bike nicked, then having a theft claim knocked back because you chained it up.

The thief obviously saw the phat chain and assumed the bike was valuable ...

I just got one quote for the ER 6F fully comp for only £10,004. Laughing

Two different comparison sites completed with the same details gave up over £100 difference to insure with the same company.

Interesting, although those w&nkers at MCE are normally cheapest for me (by a long way), with a grand excess or something stupid.

Carole Nash put up a slightly more expensive quote when I went on-line to see if I could make the renewal cheaper for the XR and the KTM.But no matter what I changed it came out £6 over.

The last page of the on-line quote came up with the option to change the excess from the £100 I had specified,so I tried £50 and clicked on 'recalculate',only for the quote to not change. So then I tried £0,no difference and then the opposite,by selecting £1000 excess. But again,no difference in the quote.

Go figure Neutral Brick Wall

With home insurance a couple of years ago I discovered that increasing the total value of contents to be insured reduced the quote until going slightly over £100k. Mr. Green Thumbs Up

Just had a go at playing around with the excess, made no difference for me Sad, just filtered out some quotes.

MCE are still the cheapest, not much in it with TP F&T, but TPO they're £60 cheaper (£208). I hate MCE with a passion, but if I keep the MT-03 it might have to be them Embarassed
