2015 YBR 125 totally dead

Hi all

My daughter recently got knocked off her bike and the bike sustained some minor front end damage. Tho it still ran its taken a few weeks to get the parts together. But I managed to rebuild it this week

The problem is that when the key is put into the ignition and turned on nothing happens tho the battery and fuse are both good

Any ideas as in getting sick it taking her to work lol

How do you know?

If you have a multimeter then you'll want to start tracking the voltage from the battery +ve terminal to see where the electrons are falling out of the wire.

If you don't have a multimeter than are you just guessing about the battery?

I know the battery is good as it came off of her twin sisters identical uncrashed bike and hers went onto her sisters and worked fine

Big red switch on the right handlebar... Pretty much every single motorcycle has one... (Aside from maybe a couple of retro anomalies that pre-date the introduction of a killswitch)

Nope, 've seen too much of porn. Laughing

Find the main fuse, change it. It's on the plus wire coming from the battery (part of the starter relay housing).The main fuse is the first thing plugged to the battery. If it's blown, then no current won't get any further. Thumbs Up

If that doesn't solve your problem, then it's damaged wiring, have fun. I take it, that when you turn the key to the on position, there is no power at all, the lights not working etc. Thinking

Yes mate it's totally dead but it's got no wiring damage I've only had to replace the left hand switchgear and headlight neither of which should of killed it

Well bugger me... That's new to me.

Apologies then Paulmanx.

Have a fiddle with the cluster of connectors behind the headlight.

My Dad's YBR fried the key barrel connector block and only powered when you wiggled it.

But yeah, as Rogerborg says; better off just going through the wiring with a multimeter to find out at which point you lose voltage.

I have removed every connector behind the headlight and reconnected it and still not a glimmer

I will have to bring my multimeter home from work Monday and work through it. I was hoping someone had the same problem and knew the solution

Once again, did you check the main fuse and the connector to the relay and the whole wiring around that area? It's on the left side of the motorcycle.

It could be as simple as that. I only ask, because every single time we (BCF) ask about the main fuse, people check every single fuse but not the main one, because it's not in the fuse box.

It was working after the crash. You replaced the headlight and the left hand switch and now it doesn't work.

If it's like any othe rnaked bike I know, pretty much every wire on the whole bike goes through the headlamp shell so you've pretty much had it all apart.

Applying Occums razor.

You didn't connect something back up properly.

As Roger says, you need to find where the electricity stops being in the wires starting at the battery. I don't know your specific bike but it would usually go battery, starter solenoid, main fuse, ignition switch, accessory fuses. If there's 12v at the accessory fuses. SOMETHING should work.

If tha main fuse is blown and immediately re-blows. Connect a bulb and bulb holder in its place. Now when there's a short, the bulb wil light up instead of the fuse blowing. Pull the accessory fuses one at a time until the bulb goes out and that'll tell you which circuit the short is on. Some smaller bikes have no accessory fuses in which case disconnect all the wires you've messed with one at a time until it goes out.

If all you're looking for is 12v in a wire, you can do it using a bulb holder and bulb. You connect one side to earth and test for voltage with the other. When there's 12v the bulb lights up.

I've used one of the bikes indicators for this exact purpose before today. You don't even need to remove it. Just disconnect the "live" side and tape a length of wire to the connector. Probe for voltage using the other end of the wire bared and wrapped/taped round a nail/fine screwdriver.

Or those who grew up in the 80's and read their manual back then. MZ states that you should use your turn signal to check the wiring, there's even a bracket where you screw it down under the seat (MZ 151/251). Thumbs Up

YBR125 has only one fuse and no kill switch.
It does have a side-stand switch. Not sure about a tilt switch.
Wiring isn't hugely complicated so personally I'd start by pulling and re-seating any and every connector I could find, trying the ignition each time.
Does anything work at all? Lights, indicators, horn?
