Japanese style 'Proof-of-Parking' to be able to register/licence a car/van.
I live in a town full of Edwardian terraces, few with off-street-parking; You cant have a two-car house-hold living in such homes, when they only have 18 ft of 'frontage' and the 'average' car is 17 foot long!
Just think; if people had to prove they had some-where to park a car, or pay for off-street parking to get it, before they could register/tax it?
How many cars would be removed from the roads?
All the streets round here would become like blooming motorways!
TWO WAY TRAFFIC! rather than a series of chicken challenges every 20 yards!
How many 'new' roads wouldn't we have to pay to build, how many existing roads could we actually maintain properly IF they were used AS 'roads' rather than fucking car-parks! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
Current Bikes:'Honda VF1000F' ;'CB750F2N' ;'CB125TD ( 6 3 of em!)'; 'Montesa Cota 248'. Learner FAQ's:= 'U want to Ride a Motorbike! Where Do U start?' |

Make red lights mean Give Way, while reminding people that 'green means you may go on if the way is clear. Take special care if you intend to turn left or right and give way to pedestrians who are crossing'.
Watch pointless off-peak congestion essentially vanish overnight. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

To get a licence, you must also have to ride a bike, motorbike. Drive a coach, lorry & Artic before you can pass the test to understand the requirements of other road users.
A lowering of the points before ban for anyone that drives for a living (they should know better) and NO avoiding a ban, no matter what. If you need to drive then drive to the law. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

No restriction for first motorbike for under 21's, sure lots of people would die but more spares Being allowed to turn left on red lights if its clear. Autobahn like motorways. More speed cameras in 30 and 20 zones.
edit: also a 6 month ban for those texting while driving, they can pay a big fine to reduce ban, money will be spent on roads.

The speed limits, well, not that long ago Czech gov. wanted to raise the highway speed limit from 130km/h to 150km/h and from 90km/h to 110km/h on some extra-urban roads. Then, they've realized that people already go 150km/h and 110km/h (above the limit) on those roads today and if they set the limit to 150km/h, they would start to push it at 170km/h (130km/h on the extra-urban roads).
If it was up to me, I would abolish the speed limits (could be limited with a speed sign at selected roads) and I would keep the in town limits (50km/h = 30mph; + whatever the sign says rule). But it would be a huge gamble with road safety. I can see 3 outcomes here.
1) The number of accidents would go up (as people can't behave),
2) The number would stay the same (as the vast majority doesn't own a fast car and motorcyclists are already doing triple digits all the time anyway. But faster car traffic could, coincidentally, increase the safety of the motorcyclists),
3) The number would go slightly down (but I am very sceptial about that)
---------------------------------------------------------
The car licencing should also change (the other car/lorry groups would be the same)
B1 = up to 1450ccm (basic course) - a plenty of cheap cars
B2 = up to 2000ccm (intermediate course) - the vast majority of cars today are between 1600ccm and 2000ccm
B open = what ever has got 4 wheels and engine (advance course) - boy racers
I wouldn't use the age criteria to divide drivers into groups. If you are 18 and you can handle 600 hp sports car, then I can't see a reason why you shouldn't be allowed to drive it. On the other hand, if you are 30 years old and can barely drive a 60hp car, then I think it is in the best interest of the society to prevent you from driving the 600hp vehicle on the public roads.
I wouldn't use the power, and/or power to weight ratio as it's easier for the customers to pick a car by its engine displacement. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

I should be allowed to deal with cyclists who use the road when there is a perfectly fine cycle path running parallel with it. Either by running them over, or lassoing them and taking them on the motorway.
[edit] And leave them in front of the wanker in the artic overtaking another one at 0.001mph faster. Let's see how much they want to really be part of the traffic flow. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.
