Hi all, thought it might be good to post here for some advice. Im 24 years old from Northern Ireland and its pretty grim lol, pretty impulsive with ideas and stuff too, i tend to jump from one thing to another quite quick.
Never really been sure about what i want to be/do in life as a career always switching. I currently work in a phone shop the last 2 years fixing mobile phones/electronics ect. Its a good job but pays minimum wage and is pretty boring and id eventually id like to move away and do some travelling ect. Im pretty into bodybuilding and currently enjoy training and thought about personal training, but i have kind of gone off this idea now. I was thinking since im really into bikes about bike mechanic but id have to go to England for this course as i dont think its offered here.
I would like to travel to either Europe/USA/Australia to do some work and travel and bike but generally i dont have a career or any useful skills i feel i could get a job with or i could stay here and work a job and travel on bikes back and fourth and do the things i want to do. Im really confused could anyone offer some advice or help in direction, thank you |

I used to work in a circus, but got pissed off with my colleagues always clowning around.
I did actually do this back in the 80s! |

I was just talking about this to my colleague yesterday. Trouble is, you can think of a perfect job that will suit you and find out it's boring/stressful/complete shite. Likewise you can get a job that sounds shite but you may enjoy it.
There's no real way to find out if you like a certain job, other than to try it. There's also the matter of money. How desperate are you to earn lots of cash, or could you still survive on minimum wage? If what you're currently doing is not enough money, ask about training and career progression. if they don't offer it, maybe find somewhere that will?
On the other hand, you're 24 and want to travel. How about a working holiday visa? Australia, Canada, New Zealand and some others will take you. You may find like I did that you find a job you really enjoy. I worked in an Orange packing factory for 3 months, very long hours but was bringing home £300 a week in cash, and that was throwing boxes around and driving forklifts without the required license.
The world is your oyster, don't do what I did and end up in an office job with little career progression and earning less than the national average. There are sacrifices to be made; i.e. you may sacrifice more money in favour of getting onto a sturdy and interesting career ladder. Or you might have to put up with being a junior for 3 years before you get anywhere.
Whatever the case, keep in mind that there are thousands of people in good jobs who are not entirely competent, so in theory you stand as much chance as anyone else with similar experience. You just have to weigh up what you want out of life, when you want it, and what you're willing to put up with in order to get it. Time out, or work in another part of the world can be a good start or at the very least gives you some paid self-reflection time. ____________________ Current: 2009 SV650 S, 1990 Kawasaki GT550
