I've been covered by them for 3 or 4 years but have only used them twice for recovery, which was within a month of each other last year when I had an intermittent electrical fault.
Despite all that stuff about having to claim the costs back the recovery drivers said that they just deal directly with the breakdown company now so I didn't pay anything. My bike is 20 years old and they didn't seem to care, they just use random local recovery companies so service can probably be hit and miss but was fine for me.
I got a letter recently saying that they are no longer doing breakdown cover and that my membership will continue as before with some other company though, same phone number, same terms ect ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj

Used once for a bike breakdown with a snapped clutch cable in 2014. They arranged for a Man With a Proper Van to be there within 30 minutes. Cost £60 for a recovery, cash. AutoAid said he'd have card payment facilities, he said he didn't. Cheque arrived within a week.
Used once for a car recovery to the local garage this year. No payment, just signed the form, job done. The driver didn't even know that they used to operate on a driver-pays basis.
I wouldn't go with anyone else. However, I've just had a letter in saying that their business has been transferred to another company (no immediate change in T&C though), so the good times may be about over. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Yup, as far as I'm concerned it really is too good to last. Self and spouse, any vehicle that you're in or on (except mopeds / 125s), recovery from anywhere including home, and explicitly does cover crash damage, attempted theft or vandalism - read your AA / RAC / Green Flag policy carefully to find out what they don't cover. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Been with them for a few years now and only just used them today. Took about 3 hours for someone to arrive which I wasn't too bothered about, lovely day and all that. It was a puncture which I had hoped they might fix but he said they don't really touch bikes, so recovered 70 miles home. Didn't pay a penny ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |

Uh huh...
Also
| Quote: | When you call AutoAid’s helpline to arrange assistance at the scene of the breakdown, we will ask you which form of payment you have with you at the time, so the garage we send out to rescue you will be able to accept whichever credit/debit card that you have with you. We recommend AutoAid members to always carry a form of payment with them. |
Last time I nearly paid for recovery myself the company wanted £1.80+vat per mile both ways from Gloucester to Lincoln on a flatbed.
Well that's 300 mile round trip, so....
300x1.8+20%= £648.
And then you have to hope that you haven't missed something in your policy that will exclude you. Age of vehicle? Use? Service history?
No thanks. I'd rather pay a bit more and have it free at the point of use. |
I used them for years. I claimed back over £1400 worth of breakdowns.
2 were very expensive, one was £800 alone for a 2.8T Shogun and caravan back from Devon to Kent.
Each time, I paid by credit card then claimed back. I always got the money before the credit card bill came in.
I've only had to switch because they would cover my old LWB 2.8 TON Shogun, but not a LWB 2.3T MGW VW T5 camper conversion. Other than that, highly recommended. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.
