Autoaid Breakdown

Anyone use these for breakdown? Recommended on Moneysaving expert for being the cheapest at £42 for you and partner and will cover any vehicle you're in, including a bike over 150cc.

Just wondered if theyre any good!

I've been covered by them for 3 or 4 years but have only used them twice for recovery, which was within a month of each other last year when I had an intermittent electrical fault.
Despite all that stuff about having to claim the costs back the recovery drivers said that they just deal directly with the breakdown company now so I didn't pay anything. My bike is 20 years old and they didn't seem to care, they just use random local recovery companies so service can probably be hit and miss but was fine for me.

I got a letter recently saying that they are no longer doing breakdown cover and that my membership will continue as before with some other company though, same phone number, same terms ect

Used once for a bike breakdown with a snapped clutch cable in 2014. They arranged for a Man With a Proper Van to be there within 30 minutes. Cost £60 for a recovery, cash. AutoAid said he'd have card payment facilities, he said he didn't. Cheque arrived within a week.

Used once for a car recovery to the local garage this year. No payment, just signed the form, job done. The driver didn't even know that they used to operate on a driver-pays basis.

I wouldn't go with anyone else. However, I've just had a letter in saying that their business has been transferred to another company (no immediate change in T&C though), so the good times may be about over.

Interested. A previous thread on this was the reason I did not bother with extending my insurance cover to national as I planned to get this instead.. I have not broken down.. almost time for renewal.

Last time I used auto aid for a recovery, I wasn't charged. Not sure why, the recovery guy said it was covered already. Rang auto aid to check, they also said it was fine, and that I didn't need to pay and claim it back.

Is this a general rule now? I just pay the minimum 40 odd quid for cover.

I'm with them too but slightly concerned by the change of ownership. The corporate world is all about buying up companies with a good business model and then wringing out some more profit by looking for cost savings. It's just a case of wait and see but I'll be surprised if the new owners are just going to sit back and do nothing.

Yup, as far as I'm concerned it really is too good to last. Self and spouse, any vehicle that you're in or on (except mopeds / 125s), recovery from anywhere including home, and explicitly does cover crash damage, attempted theft or vandalism - read your AA / RAC / Green Flag policy carefully to find out what they don't cover.

Used twice in last month, battery and then regulator. Sent bike recovery service, both arrived within hour first boot me running second delivered me and bike 40 miles away. Just signed job no charge.

Been with them for a few years now and only just used them today. Took about 3 hours for someone to arrive which I wasn't too bothered about, lovely day and all that. It was a puncture which I had hoped they might fix but he said they don't really touch bikes, so recovered 70 miles home. Didn't pay a penny

I've got green flag for my cars and bike, had to call them out a few months back when my old Varadero broke down and they were great.

They sent proper vehicles to pick me up and drop me and the bike home and again the next day to get my bike to the garage.

Can't fault them.

I've just used them this Saturday. Was out for a few days biking with my Dad. We travelled from Hereford to the Lake District and then second day rode the dales.

Unfortunately my Dad had a small off in the middle of nowhere with no phone reception. His foot was pointing a different direction with some bone sticking out of his leg.

After managing to contact ambulance he was whisked away via the Great North Air Ambulance and I was left with 2 bikes

Police were excellent and let me ride his bike a mile down the road to a small unmanned rail station (although there was a manned signal box who was the kind person who called ambulance for me earlier) and gave me a lift to get my bike to.

I'm with three that had no signal so police let me use there phone to call auto aid (my dads recovery cover) and they were brilliant. They understood they could not ring me back so kept me on hold until they found a recovery company (sos bike recovery) and gave me an eta. They ended up being half an hour later than the eta but I was in the middle of nowhere and they settled the bill direct so nothing to pay. A couple of days later his was delivered back to Hereford.

I can't thank autoaid enough who helped me in a very stressful situation. I will be changing over to them to.
