It's a bit of a speshalized thing tyres is. At least in the UK it seems that way.
There are plenty companies sell the shit but they seem to only cater to trade only. It may be a liability issue where they don't want to be sited in a fatal accident enquiry so only sell to pros and not Joseph Public.
I struggle to get quality products for the little tyre work we do. We use American shit mostly and as with all stuff, some brands better than others.
As far as rim protection is concerned (That's both an industrial term and a sexual preference) I have only used the Teflon-like plastic (not teflon but same colour) protectors and standard tyre levers.
I think if you were to try American Auto sites you will get more range then see if they have UK importer/agent. ____________________ Disclaimer: The comments above may be predicted text and not necessarily the opinion of MCN. |

'Most all 'trade' will be using a tyre machine with rotating plate and arm, so will be fine with a steel bar?
(And many dealers will have fully automatic machines that do it all for you with minimal human intervention.)
I wouldn't mind trying some of the thinner protectors for bikes as always found the thick ones make it irksomely hard with the added diameter.
On cars however, seems most people use a bigger lever spun around, give the choice.
Though, with all that - for the moment I'm not planning to use it on any particularly nice alloys, so may not be a big thing.
Ones like this: https://alloy-mate.webs.com/
Or even cheaper, this: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231904898094 |

I know commercial operations will use machines. (we have a Wurth unit all singing and dancing for car, truck and wheel barra tyres.)
I watched a clip showing that first item linked in-service. Dangerous looking ham-fisted design. It actually looked home made. The paint finish makes it look real though. It wasn't properly nailed to the floor mind you.
I remember an Aussie Mechanic who had made a bead breaker for split-rim Hilux/Landcruiser wheels. It was ace and cost him some 1-1/2 tubing and a few welding rods. I copied the design for a desert job myself. But not as nice as his.
If you have facility to clash a one together yourself, I think the metal used needs to be heavy gauge to last and not flap around.
I would use nothing less than 2.5mm wall thickness tubing and possibly 6mm-10mm plate. Substantial shit laphs at stubborn beads and shallow wheel wells.
