Trickle chargers are hateful devices. If you're leaving your bike for any length of time just disconnect the earth. ____________________ Now: A100, SRX250, XJ598, FZ750, SL1000

I reckon it would drain the battery. If, like mine, when I plug to the bike and not into the wall, the internal fan (of the charger) powers up, as do the LED lights. That takes power from the bike.
I'd have the leads out ready to be plugged in and plug it in for a day every week or something (perhaps that might be excessive) if I was leaving it for a long period.

Why are they hateful? Once you have the Optimate lead connected to the battery it's simple to plug it in and keep the battery topped up every now and then. Much less grief than disconnecting the battery every time you park the bike up for a while, especially when you consider that some bikes need the tank lifted, or other major surgery, to get to the terminals. |
A number of bad experiences I guess resulting in knackered gel batteries, dead cells in lead acid, broken optimates... In the long run just disconnecting works better for me. ____________________ Now: A100, SRX250, XJ598, FZ750, SL1000
