Microsoft office....harder to get free now?

As per title really, havn't needed it personally for many years...now I do. I was running a cracked version, but MS have discovered it and want an activation code. I'm feeling really stingy....how easy is it to get code generators that work? Or cracked versions that don't get discovered?

Or shall I just stump up the £6 a month?

Any specific reason not to use LibreOffice? I use it at home & at work, has good compatability with MS Office, can export and import various formats.

Good connectors to various DMS , such as Alfresco etc, and more generic DMS using the CMIS protocol, maintaining version control.

In all my years of using dodgy software I've only ever had 2 programs stop working (briefly) as they were allegedly unregistered etc.

Switch off all updates for Windows and after you install anything go to the preferences and disable the Check for updates (wording could be different).... then go to your firewall and add an exception for said software then block all access to and from the internet

So much easier than spending time fucking around with serials and activation codes, not to mention there's nothing to worry about with updates or firewalls.

i have a 100% legit unlimited access code for office 2007, but I probably shouldn't post in a thread that's not marked NSFW as it can then be found and blocked. If they care. I still use it though, so I'd like it to still work.

The only versions I have seen have been self-activation in the .exe. No serial, no activation, no issue.

Through work I get access to MS office pro+ 2016 for £10, but only one licence.

Again, what is it that you actually want to do?

LibreOffice and OpenOffice are good.

If you just want to make documents, why not even consider something like Google Docs? You can download the files as pdf/docx.

Personally I now use Latex most of the time I want to make a document. It's got a steep learning curve, but makes awesome looking documents with little effort once you learn it.

I got Office 2007 recently and it does everything you need it to.

Unfortunately, Windows 10 knows this and so pops up nag notifcations (!!!) saying that I have an old version of Office and wouldn't I like a 50% discount on the newest version instead?

I've just become self employed, so need to be able to create invoices, do expenses etc.

Office online looked ok, but couldn't open normal documents as templates etc.


Will give Openoffice/libre and see how they go!

Libreoffice will do 99% of what MsOffice does, and 100% of what you actually need to do. The 1% is whistles & bells.

Just had a quick look also. I don't like the idea of rewriting 10 years of add-ins

I like the open source nature of it though. Hopefully they'll add VBA support one day.
