 |
|
Hi all,
Hope everyone is well.
I have a quirky request for help please…and hopefully I can give something in return too!
I am looking for various bikes to record the audio from, for a videogame. I work in games, and recorded a handful of bikes for a Moto GP game a few years back, and more recently recorded some Ducati’s for a different game, so have done quite a few now.
So first of all, here is what I am looking for…
Aprilia RS 250
Aprilia SXV 450
Aprilia RSV Mille / RSV 1000
BMW F800 R / F800 S
BMW R 1200 R
Kawasaki W800
Kawasaki Z1000
Kawasaki Ninja H2 / H2R
KTM 390 R / RC390
KTM Duke 690
KTM 1290 Super Duke R
KTM 1190 RC8 / RC8R
MV Agusta F3 800
MV Agusta F4 1000
Suzuki GSX-R 750
Triumph Street Twin
Triumph Scrambler
Triumph Bonneville T120 (new version)
Triumph Speed Triple 955i
Triumph Speed Triple 1050
Yamaha RZV 500R / RD500LC / RZ500
Yamaha XSR700 ABS
I don’t necessarily need exact models above – if you have a variant which has the same or a very similar engine, that will also work – we are purely focused on getting the sound right.
Ideally I need to get the bikes to a dyno, and record them that way. I need to record a few power run type recordings in different gears, plus some static RPM recordings and a bit of ‘riding’ as if the bike was on the road. Actual running time on dyno will be maybe 20 minutes. The rest is non dyno like startup, switch off, idle and blips. So you would get a free power run out of it, so you could get some technical info on your bike’s performance!
We would need the bike for 2-3 hours. This includes 30 minutes to set mics up, around an hour or so to record, bearing in mind that we will need to stop a few times to allow the bike to cool. Then another 30 minutes to dismantle the microphones etc.
I would pay for the dyno of course, and could give you some dosh for expenses. As well as the power run printout, I can also give you a professional, crystal clear audio recording of your bike for a ringtone, or just for your interest and pleasure! I can also get you a copy of the game when it’s finished (unfortunately I cannot mention what it is for yet, but will be able to in a few weeks time!)
As mentioned, we have recorded a load of bikes now, and every session has gone smoothly, and therefore assuming your bike is in good shape, there should be no issues. The power run will tell you if you have issues in any case!
I am in Bristol, and have used a few dynos around here, therefore it would be most ideal if you are local to this area. However, I am under no illusions that it will be tricky to find them all locally, therefore would love to hear from you wherever you are, assuming you are not an enormous distance away – i.e. Scotland might be a stretch! It could well be that I would find a dyno local to you and do it there instead.
Anyway, if this sounds like something you are interested in, and could do within the next 6 weeks or so, then please send me a message!
Fwiw – this is a genuine request, and you can check our company if you search for ‘The Audio Guys’ - we have a lot of experience in racing games, and do a fair bit of car recording too. I am not here to upset anyone or sell anything, and am only looking for nice noises from your bikes I also sought permission to post beforehand, and was given the go ahead (thanks!) – so…I look forward to hearing from you!
Cheers

SP1 or 2 might be better unless the game intends to feature some laid back semi sporty riding ____________________ 2001 Aprilia RSV Mille R -dead, 2016 XSR 700-gone, 2018 Dorsoduro 900 |

Yeah, what game's it for? I hope the guys at Milestone's RIDE realised that the current sounds are shite and they're bringing in some proper audio guys to do the job |

Hi all - thanks for all the replies so far - great response thanks!
So a few things...
I am totally happy for you to suggest other bikes not on the list - it might be that we cannot find some models so we might end up replacing them with yours instead.
I will check regarding the modified/standard question - I don't think this will be a big deal though, we are not really in a position to be fussy.
I will get back to you individually about specific bikes - thanks for all the offers so far - I really appreciate it!
I cannot say what the game is yet I am afraid as we are under an NDA - however, I am pretty sure the game is being announced publicly in a few weeks so will mention as soon as I can.
Yes, I am a newbie to the forum, but this is most definitely not a shopping list for anything dodgy! As mentioned, my company is 'The Audio Guys' and you will see on our website that my name is on there in the 'About Us' page. If this still does not convince you then call the phone number at the top and you can speak to me if you wish!
So thanks again to everyone who has responded - it really is much appreciated and I look forward to hearing from more of you hopefully!
Tim. |

Haha - we will do our best
This is kind of related to the point above about standard vs modified cans. Happy to hear peoples opinions on this, but the general feeling is that it is more important to try to get the engine type and rough cc correct first, and then worry about standard or modified exhaust after that. Ideally yes everything would be super accurate but its not really practical to be able to do this in every case when games often have hundreds of cars/bikes. Obviously we only have budget to record a limited number of bikes and it is only possible to source a limited number of bikes too, hence not being able to be too fussy.
So our general take on it is - yes, the engine type, size and RPMs should be right and if the cans are more aggressive than standard, then well, as long as the player thinks it sounds cool and likes what they hear, then this is the most important thing? |
To some degree, yes.
But part of the original Ride game was buying aftermarket exhausts which should alter the sound of the bike.
It's for this reason I'll allow you to stick my suzuki gsxr 1000 with (not for road use) micron gp exhaust on the dyno.
