I ran a Daytona ignition, with 14k curved map and melted my high compression piston.

That thing is too much awesomeness for such a small vehicle IMO!
Love the 4pot caliper on the rear brake too!
It just looks like too little motorcycle for a 21bhp powerhouse, but it must be a little beast to ride, especially with 10" wheels.
What class will it be racing in out of interest?
p.s. when your bank balance recovers, can we see some more Rotax porn then too? |

It will fall under the Adult 160+ open class, so I will be in with all the CRF150s. Wont stand a chance. But I'm in it for the fun rather than gunning for podium.
The 140 classes are saturated, they had 60 bikes out on the grid last year so I heard. Not up for that one bit!
Yup, 4 pot front and rear, brakes are awesome, but given the engine, they kinda need to be.
It is gonna be awesome I think!
Dam_buster (Jimbo) has been over tonight as he's got a YCF160 (Awesome mid-size pit!). We were discussing the Rotax, he's agreed that if I finish it, he will buy a KTM85 and supermoto it to join in on the 2t fun.
So yes, it will be getting some work this year I think. ____________________ - Honda XL125S - CBR400 NC29 - VFR400 NC30 - CBR400 NC29 - TL1000R - TeeZeR Pit! - Bandit 12 - YZF450 - LuckyMX125 Pit! - Demon X XLR 140 Pit!

Little bit more tinkering tonight.
I fitted a drilled magnetic sump bolt, and lock-wired it to the peg bar, for the NMRRC regulations.
I also made up a little mini crash bobbin (After pic was taken) that bolts on in place of the lower mounting bolt on the front caliper.
When I laid the bike down, the caliper was touching marginally before the crash bung. Teach me for running brake discs bigger than the wheels!
Got some small bobbins on the way, to bolt under the foot pegs.
And I fitted the oil cooler up too, just underneath the headstock. Not so much for oil cooling reasons, but more for capacity reasons.
Cooler and pipe work allows an extra 10-15% of oil in the system.

Took the pits for a little test run up a quiet farm track this afternoon.
The YCF is running an OORacing Charger 160, with Mikuni VM26 carb.
It wants a little bit of carb tweaking, but runs well.
Ran it side by side with the Thumpstar. With mine on the standard (bottom) map and Rev Limiter. The two bikes are very close indeed. Thump having the slight edge in the midrange, but no more than a bikes length over the full 0 - top speed of both bikes.
Switched it up to the 3rd map and Rev Limiter, and it really did transform the mid-range torque on the bike.
Front wheel will power up in 3rd and 4th gear (at probably 40/50mph) if you dont sit over the front. Pulled some good bike lengths on the Charger. :o
With the short chassis, and peaky engine, I can see it being a hand full out on the track. Very excited!

So I thought the clutch was deaded.
But, It was not.
Problem with the first-motion shaft. It need shimming properly.
Too much lateral float in the shaft, and what is happening, is I set the bike up, clutch how I like it etc.
Once under load, the first motion shaft, depending on what gear I am in, will float over to the off-side of the engine, and push the clutch up tight against the release pin in the cover/cassette, and then disengage the clutch, causing excessive slip.
Of course, as it disengages, the load comes off the engine, and the shaft then tried to return to the near-side, re-engaging the clutch, and goes round in circles.
So, until the end of the season, when I plan to strip the engine, and fit a 190cc bore kit, I have stripped and rebuilt the clutch with HD springs.
I've fitted a new, hardened clutch release pin.
And I've shimmed the first motion shaft, between the clutch basket, and the bearing, pulling the whole shaft over by about 1mm.
This isnt the right way to do it. But it's a working repair which will see me through until winter saving me having to split the cases now.
I had a little play tonight too, doing the final touches.
The forks taper just where I want the top yoke to sit. So the yoke was not gripping the fork leg very well. Little bit of play in it.
So I've shimmed it out with some steel shimming paper.... Well, a carefully chopped up aerosol tin.
And I also fitted up the oil cooler and high-flow braided oil lines.

Bought various go-pro mountings so next time it's out, I should have some footage, so you can see how fvcking lairy it is to ride. ____________________ - Honda XL125S - CBR400 NC29 - VFR400 NC30 - CBR400 NC29 - TL1000R - TeeZeR Pit! - Bandit 12 - YZF450 - LuckyMX125 Pit! - Demon X XLR 140 Pit!

It's such a little monster I bet the clutch was begging for mercy anyway!
Looking forward to a video and hearing it running too!
So if it's OK to ask, what kind of budget do you need to put together a bike like this?
I was loving all the MSX threads for a funky road legal large pit bike, and thought a 12bhp KSR 80 would be ridiculously fun as my preferred alternative, but it would feel like a coked up moped compared to thumpstar beast I expect! |

Probably £1200 with the Daytona and the PE28 carb.
Could really do with a decent pipe too which will stick another £180 in that mix. ____________________ - Honda XL125S - CBR400 NC29 - VFR400 NC30 - CBR400 NC29 - TL1000R - TeeZeR Pit! - Bandit 12 - YZF450 - LuckyMX125 Pit! - Demon X XLR 140 Pit!

This Sunday, we're heading to Stretton 2000 (Leicester) for a day on the track.
Jim and I haven't ridden on the black stuff for over 2 years. Cant wait.
Dug the Go-Pro out, stuck a few mounts on the bike to get as much footage as possible

Couple of short clips from today. Will edit properly tomorrow.
First part of video - Young lad goes down (Yes, I'm in the slow group! haha) Leg trapped between tyre and exhaust.
Second part of video - Is Jim and I having a tear up in the fast group.
150cc Daytona Anima and a fully loaded YX160, full bore in 3rd gear (I thought we were moving along quite quickly). When we were passed by a couple of CRF150s, 1 of which was being ridden by a very talented 12 year old girl
