What's the brand name of the gas used for heating localised areas to remove hard to remove bolts?

I seen someone use what looked like a deoderant can the other day to remove exhaust studs but I assume that there is a can of something out there with the correct type of nozzle on it for doing this type of work.

Are you sure that heat was being applied?

Could it have been this stuff:-

He used a lighter to get it started so was heat.

However, what would be better for getting a nut off?

Cold treating or heat treating?

Freeze and release works, but a blowtorch works too.

Personally I'd probably go freeze and release or a penetrant such as plusgas first, before I applied a blowtorch to a bike full of fuel and other flammable liquids.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Don't know about a brand name but it could be propane/butane/acetylene or some combination of those. All make stuff hot. You can pick up a cheap blow torch from B&Q which will do the job.

I second Plusgas - helped me remove a particularly difficult sprocket nut.

Heating expands and freezing contracts, so both can work.
I think that heating and then freezing fast can also work wonders, but you have to be careful that you only warm up before freezing, so as not to temper the metals.

Probably means plusgas, it's a penetrating oil.

Maybe it was a can of lynx Africa, or PlusGas used in the style of James Bond

Or maybe it was a bit like this?

I'd go for something like this though:

https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Hand+Tools/d10/Soldering+Torches+%26+Accessories/sd3158/Vortex+MAP+Torch+Pack+/p71324

The torches that fit to "butane/propane mix" bottles (campingaz) do not fit to the propane or MAP bottles (which are the more professional plumber type job) and vice versa. You'll probably get more fire out of the latter, definitely with the MAP bottles.

...edited for more james bond
