So those virus writers, Microsoft, have managed to infect one of my machines. What parts of Windows 10 should I be turning off to help an old PC cope.

So far I've found the option to not seed updates for the entire internet, what other nasty options should I be aware of?

Following with interest. I too would like to disable options of me uploading to everybody. But I'm a noob so if you could give a brief instruction as to how to get to that option, I'd be hugely grateful.

I hate Windows 10, can't get used to it. Seems to be the most CPU and RAM intensive Windows ever.

FFS, after months of turning down Microsoft's kind offer to 'upgrade' my system from 8.1 to 10 for free the arseholes have ridden roughshod over my wishes and dumped 10 on my PC. WTF???

I will no doubt get used to it but WTF has it done to the way I view BCF?
I presume I need to go on a settings hunt as most of the members avatars have disappeared and I have a little black box with a cross in it and 'middle finger' where this Middle Finger should be.

So Microsoft this one's for you Middle Finger Middle Finger Middle Finger

EDIT: Now I can at least see my Middle Finger efforts, as I'm viewing through Chrome, Microsoft Edge doesn't seem to like offensive shit regardless of the settings and won't show anything like this Middle Finger

Is it though? Looking at the official system requirements, it does not seem so bad. The win 7 has got the same system requirements. Thinking

Yes, it's no XP, but XP was 15 years ago.

My win10 has gone to shit. Can't open the start menu or right click the buttons on the bottom bar. Got programs that just seem to disappear and settings that just turn back on after being turned off. Also there's a lot of thing that start on startup that can't be turned off.
Having a user account for every day stuff and an admin account for important system stuff doesn't seem to work anymore Sad

Edge is hilariously bad and isn't really an update to IE.
Chrome or #2 Fiefox all the way.
Nothing wrong with W10 except some people who already decided Microsoft is spawn of Satan like to slag it - and besides it's 'new' Twisted Evil Folded arms Bounce! Hurt

The most frequent problems are mentioned above - you can roll back for 30 days and it is much quicker than the install.
I would stick with it and google any minor issues.
With a few tweaks it's hard to see any major difference from W7 in normal use.

Edge just seems to be Microsoft trying to be Apple and failing miserably.

Nah .. none of that, wipe it, put linux on, never look back.

Or .. if you're feeling really adventurous, then, why not install remixos

I have a laptop with Linux, it is pretty hopeless if you want to actually do any serious work - like run Photoshop or adobe Premiere.
If you think Linux can run a comparable program you aren't aware what those two (for example) can do.

Really ...

There are many many video and imaging editors available for Linux, and yes, used in a professional environment. Where we work, we use a combination of Gimp, Openshot, blender etc.

Yes I'm sure there's a bit of a learning curve, but there is with anything new.

I'm presuming by serious work, you don't include building web services, openstack cloud environments, 999 Emergency control systems, Docker containers, managing enterprise hrms, and erp systems, and multi replicated database technologes, both rdbms and nosql environments?

I'm working on a whole bunch of Robots at the moment. For the most part they use Linux.

I still use Windows at home mind. Linux is great for developer type stuff, but Windows is nicely honed for home use.

Linux is nicely honed for home use as well, if my 70 year old father can get on with it, then I'm sure most other would be able to if they looked at it. There are some distributions around that will really suit those coming from a windows background.
