Drain the carburetor and tank, let the tank to dry out. You're might gonna have to take the carburetor bowl off, to clean any crud and white residue. Water reacts with the aditives in modern petrol and creates slime that clogs the jet/s. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

No not at all! -- exactly that nothing -- and new cable because the old one was snapped and the guy I bought it off wedged the top of the carb in and bent the needle -- and it is idling at about 2500 - 3000 rpm but I can't change it without a throttle
...Completely fucking buggered main fuel jet then maybe? (the needle sits in the jet, if some twat bashed the needle in, I can't see the jet surviving)
I would be thinking new carb at this point, they're cheap as chips and who knows what the previous owners (twats) have done to it other than the visible.
Alright thanks mate was looking at getting another carb soon anyway so hopefully that's the problem |

That is a rather fast idle.... and you should change it without the twist-grip.
There is a screw on the side that adjusts the height that the throttle slide 'stops'... you wind that 'out' and the slide should drop to get the idle speed down to between 800 & 1000rom at tick-over.
But to start with this simple/stupid first... the choke is 'off', isn't it?
Most motors wont rev-up with the choke 'on'.. and it makes them idle high..... not that high, usually, but higher than 800-1000rpm.
In answer to your question yes the come is off, and thank you well sort that out! |
