...Going to be honest, I need to vent. Perhaps its immature of me but I lost my shit yesterday evening after a massive storm had flooded the roads.

So, I work a late evening shift, and because the flooding was so bad, I decided to leave work two hours early so I wouldnt be caught in the floods in the dark.

Needless to say, On the way home, I approached a huge AF puddle. Must have been about a foot deep and I did what any good motorcyclist would do, I slowed down in plenty of time even tapped my brake a few times gently to have it flash for the guys behind BEFORE i braked. So I wasnt an unexpected hazard.

So I tackle this puddle, slowly, Say at about 10mph, And then some bell end car driver in the next lane, SMASHES into the fucking puddle on my right, and fucking soaks me from head to toe in this Tsunami of rainwater and god knows what else.

I kept my cool, but even now, a day later,

I wish I'dve punched his fucking wing mirror off.

Any of you fellas had a similar situation?

Puddles are the least of my worries when its raining, its the SMIDSY risk that seems to go up 200% that gets me.

I've noticed that since riding the YBR I've become even more invisible in the rain.

Hi

No, I've been lucky in that respect on the bike, however, there was one time something similar happened in the car, like you big big puddle, I slowed down. A car was coming the other way, and whoosh straight into the puddle, only of course, the tsunami bounced of my car, and straight in through their open driver's window !! Smile

It has been crap weather for riding round this are though the last few days hasn't it. At least, my waterproofs have held up well, might have to get some waterproof overboots, as, my boots have leaked, not too surprising in this weather I guess.

I've been lucky it's either been that bad that cars haven't even dared to try and get through it so it's just left me creating my own wall of water and soaking myself or they've crawled through it because they're scared of scrapping their engine.

This sort of thing doesn't normally bother me. In that sort of weather I'm already drenched. A tsunami from another car isn't going to make a difference.

It's the car drivers who panic in rain or snow that do my head in. The concept of engine braking is alien to most it seems.

I had this happen to me in the car. I was trundling along half on the pavement when this pleb in a range rover smashed though on the other side of the road. they pushed a huge bow wave up and over the top of my car which went into the air intake and flooded the engine! Mad
luckily I had my toolbox in the car and it didn't take long to whip out the plugs to get rid of any water and dry the MAF sensor. Got soaked though Crying or Very sad

Rated funny Laughing

Saw the same happen to a guy going through The Rodings a few months back. Roads were dry but it'd been raining heavily for a few days beforehand and it's all fields round there, so you get the run off down from the fields across the road in places.

I was making progress but bimbling a bit as I'd done quite a few miles at a fair pace and needed a break. All of a sudden I see in my mirror a biker flying up the outside of the cars I'd gone past previously and arrives onto my rear wheel like an angry wasp.

I'd already been down this road once coming in the other direction and noted the huge puddle which covered the oncoming lane, around the other side of the right hand bend that was upcoming, so I'd got myself in the mindset of coming to a stop on the left if required and waiting for a clear gap in traffic before proceeding.

Of course, Mr Angry Wasp Blade Star didn't know this so he plumps for a couple of big overtakes and comes around the bend at a fairly hefty pace, certainly not at a speed he was going to be able to stop before the puddle; and sure enough he arrives at the puddle just as a big ass truck ploughed straight through it and sent a tidal wave about 8 feet tall all the way over the other side of the road Laughing

He stopped up in the layby about 150 yards on looking extremely pissed off as I chuckled to myself all the way home Mr. Green Karma

Motorcycle riders soon learn that their bike will carve a nice neat V through the water if you mentally calculate how deep the water is and how fast you should go when you approach a puddle on a known bit of road.

Get it right and you can ride through water deeper than your footpegs without even getting your feet wet by staying JUST in the bow wave as you go through the puddle.

This can become great fun once you know how to do it right.

HOWEVER...
Personal experience tells me that this should never be attempted in the Croyden underpass because you'll only get about halfway through the tunnel before the bow wave rebounds off the walls and rushes back in to clap together right where your bike is causing a sudden freak wave that drenches you and the whole bike from the chinstrap down, naturally causing it stall in the deepest part of the flooded underpass. Then comes the sound of laughing and car horns as you do the sodden, uphill push of shame out of the tunnel.

Well I thought it was just the sun that brought out the idiots but so does the rain. chucking it down the other day on the way to work and taking it steady a small Vauxhall van decides he is going to overtake the line of cars behind me at blistering speed while a car was coming the opposite way, I started braking as I saw him in my mirror and he pulled in front of me with inches to spare! Dick! Rolling Eyes On exiting the motorway up the slip road a Kia decides to undertake everyone up to the roundabout at the top and turn right! Still on my commute on a dual carriageway i looked in my mirror before indicating to pull out only to see a dark shape approaching fast in the outer lane, then a Honda accord zipped past without any lights on and all this with rain bouncing a good foot off the road. What has happened to common sense with drivers these days? Rolling Eyes

AN UPDATE TO MY STORY:

Turns out, In a massive dose of Karma, The guy approached me at work today.

-Why?

BECAUSE THE BASTARD WHO SPLASHED ME WAS THE GUY WHO WORKS ON THE MACHINE NEXT TO ME AT WORK.

Regardless he was apologising like crazy this morning, God bless him, But I still think he's an ass, Albeit, a nice one with a sense of decency.

ALSO. I'm glad I didnt punch his bloody wing mirror off now!

...And Im still pissed off that he always steals my fucking pens.

LMFAO. What a fooken twist.

You tell me, They should rename that shit "Not so common sense."

Maybe it's the health and safety. So much of it now-a-days that people dont need to think. Making common sense not so common because people arnt practising using it. Just following rules and regs.

IMO.

I dunno.

Had something similar before with it pouring down heavy with rain... stuck behind a coach in good distance, he then indicates to go off this slip lane for a left turn so once his in this slip lane I open the throttle to go past and then suddenly notice the ENORMOUS puddle in the in the slip lane on my side. Coach goes thundering through it just as I'm going past and tsunami hit me full on. Couldnt see for a good 5-10 seconds and panic did set in Laughing

Poor obs, I bet he was laughing his tits off Laughing

A car infront of me did fail to use a slip road today. He did not give a single shit to look at existing traffic, doing 40mph and tried to merge into the side of a HGV at 60mph.

There are some people who genuinely believe it is the responsibility of people on the main road to make room for people entering on a slip road. One bloke I used to work with was like that - I only went in a car with him driving once, a trip that included driving at speed down the hard shoulder with him cursing the lorry next to him for not slowing down to let him in, as the lorry driver obviously didn't know how to drive and shouldn't be on the road Rolling Eyes

Maybe that's why they should address Motorways when you're learning to drive Thinking

With motorways there's normally enough time to slot into a gap, but I really hate it when they give you a piddly little slip road to pull onto a fast road.

It annoys me when I've matched speed with a gap to be able to move onto the motorway and then they realise I'm about to come across so they speed up to close the fucking gap when there's under 10 meters of slip road left before a bloody concrete barrier!

The answer here is to make everyone ride a bike for a year before being allowed to drive a car.
at least then they might be a bit more sympathetic if and when they do finally drive a car and they encounter someone on a bike.
and if they aren't, punch them not the wing mirror.
