So I bought some LED G4 light bulbs to replace the halogen ones in the motorhome, the light fitting in the dining room and sitting room also use G4's nice one so i order a load of them from ebay.

120w down to 6w, Such save, Much efficient, wow

Any how i go home today to find a parcel on the mat, yay light bulbs. I changed all the bulbs in the dining room light fittings, underwhelming they didn't give off enough light to light the room, all bulbs combined where about as bright as bodyguard.

Each light fitting holds 6 G4 bulbs, on halogen bulb was significantly brighter than 6 LED bulbs, the halogens are rated as around 250 lumens, the LED's 180 so while i didn't expect them to be as bright I expected them to at least light the room.

I tried one of the LED bulbs on a battery booster pack and it seemed a work as I originally expected it to, nice and bright. 6 like that would have easily lit the room.

what gives?

sounds to me like the jump pack was putting out more power than the transformer in the light fitting...

I believe the LED ones require a different transformer but "on grid" electrics are not my forte

Well, despite all the advertising guff your, wonderful, new LED's will blow more often than incandescent, flourescent, or halogen bulbs.
In the grand scheme of things any saving you think you may make, by using less energy, will be spent on replacement LED's!
You'll end up buying them in bulk! Wink

Yep looks that way, a bit of googling turned up the following

which makes sense, when i switched out one of the LED's bulbs for a Halogen everything seems work better, however the halogens put out a soft yellowish light where as the LED's a hard white/blue light so they don't really mix that well

Have a 4 bulb light rail in my kitchen & each time a bulb blew I replaced it with a LED equivalent.
Eventually all bulbs were LED and that was just over a year ago.
The sign of a good LED bulb is minimal heat, as heat is a sign of inefficiency & that heat can also cause failure.
When I was running a mix of standard bulbs and LEDs, I could not touch the standard bulbs without burning my finger. But I could press my entire palm against the LEDs without worry.

Admittedly LED's give off intense light in a short area, so your better off getting modern energy saving bulbs, the wierd looking tube ones, for large areas. Yea they need to "warm up" but they are noticeable quicker at doing this compared to the first generation of ES bulbs.
