Fibre speed test, which what one I ort to be believing govna

Recently upgraded to fibre broadband, and I've run a few different speed tests (on a wired connection) to see what I'm getting:

Internet Frog: 10.22Mb/1.37Mb (up/down)
Speedtest.net: 51.51Mb/9.43Mb
BT's own tester: 47.05Mb/9.38Mb

What one should I believe? Thinking

I'm inclined to believe Internet frog as when I've had broadband issues in the past (barely able to load videos etc.) it has always reflected this in test results.

Also downloaded a couple of games this morning and whilst it was quick, it didn't seem to be the sort of jump you'd expect going from 3-4Mb to allegedly 50ish. Also Speedtest/BT's checker seem to vary a lot more.

No idea, but ours at home is 5Mb. Every test I've just run says the same, except that frog one, which says 3Mb. Seems inaccurate.

Bts own (or maybe speedtest) is the only one testing whqat you're paying for. i.e. a connection to BT's servers. Anything else going outside their datacentre isn't covered by your contract IIRC.

Where were you downloading games from?

The only places I can max out my connection are Windows Updates and Steam.

As speedtest.net and BT's own speed tester sound right I don't think you've got much to worry about.

Internet Frog gives me a result that's about 1/4 of what speedtest.net and BT's own one says.

Quite willing to bet that Internet Frogs server is somewhere far away and or they've got a slow connection.

Your connection works fine, stop speed testing and get on with downloading the internet. You'll find that you can't get full speed from the vast majority of sites or services but that's inevitable when you've got super faster internets. Thumbs Up

FYI consoles are notorious for being shockingly slow at downloading stuff. There are quite a few pages out there walking through speeding up the network connection.

also make sure your using LAN and not wifi, its surprising how much wifi can sometime slow stuff down

Are you on the master socket or an extension?

I find Origin is uses the most out of my connection.

Steam will usually sit around 900Kbs whereas Origin is usually 1.2Mbs

If you want to raise a fault, you need to run bts own speed tester.
This is the only one they will accept speeds from.

You also need to complete all tests, and enter your number. Complete them at least 10 minutes apart.

Once all 3 tests are complete they will appear against your number on the BT system so they will see the results when you raise a ticket.

if you dont enter your number it wont link to your acccount, and they will ask you to complete them again.

You mail also have to change the Un/PW in the router too for their account for speed testing to complete the TAP3 testing.

Believe BT's own tester. And if you want an accurate result make sure you follow their guidelines which will be along the lines off disconnecting everything else and turning on the wifi (no point testing whilst someone else is streaming netflix).

Also check your ping result for each of these tests, which will give you an idea how far away the testing servers are. From memory Internet Frog tests to servers in the US, so don't rely on it for anything.

The chances are, if it doesn't appear to be any faster then the bottle neck wasn't your internet connection.
