The most excellent Fatima Manji of C4 news just happened to be the presenter on duty when the Nice story broke. As usual she was wearing a hijab. They put her on there intentionally. It's just more of the same PC crap that most people except your local progressive revolutionary communists facist "anti-facists" are fed up with. Good to see that he is willing to call a spade a spade. I don't follow his argument completely though. He thinks it's inappropriate and disrespectful, where as I think it's more of a subtle statement by C4 about whose side they are on. TV contains two types of information:
1. The overt. What they are saying, what is written etc.
2. The subtle. Look at who is there, what do they look like? You'll notice that many of the programmes and adverts are very similar in the subtle themes they contain.

This time they just weren't quite subtle enough Wink

Also, Islam isn't a race, unless you are telling us all Muslims are brown? Wink

I have to agree with ^^^^^

It's a conscious decision by the news channel to use her.

The thing with all other news presenters is that I have no knowledge or interest what their religion is. If she didn't wear a hijab I wouldn't know or care what hers is but she HAS to wear one.

I'm sure her husband or father wouldn't let her be seen in public without one, therefore it is female oppression being encouraged by C4. Something illegal in our society.

It is. If she didn't have a Hijab, they wouldn't have used her. If they want to take the equality line then that's fine, but let's do it proportionally. 17% of the time a 'kipper needs to present the news on C4.

Here's another example. I can't think of any adverts where the husband humiliates the wife. However I can think of loads where the husband is humiliated by the wife, or where he is stupid and she comes up with all the clever ideas like buying their crappy product or service. They use mixed race couples a LOT on TV but this doesn't tend to occur when they use them for some reason. Naturally the women are all good looking and have big tits and the bloke (if white) looks like a metrosexual hipster.

InB4 Progressives: "Well what's wrong with that you racist/sexist/misogynist?". Nothing particularly, I just think it's funny how shpeople don't notice it even though its so continuously drummed into people through the media.

I think people are choosing to miss the point here by slating Ch4 for having a woman with a headscarf on the news. If it was deliberate, it was done to show that even though the nutter killed those people in the name of Allah, not all muslims are marginalised psycos. The question of how she dresses and whether she'd end up in a suitcase on Saddleworth Moor if she didn't wear the item is another topic altogether...

You can't really see news publications as anything more than privately run magazines and TV shows.

It's sad and fascinating in equal measure to see how different organisations can word the same story to make it come across from a completely different angle while still being entirely true to the facts.

It wasn't intentional. Fatima and the management have both said that the scheduling was decided weeks ago. Besides, there are so many Islamic Terrorism stories that Fatima was bound to end up being in the studio for one of them sooner or later.

Utter nonsense. She's on C4 News because she's brilliant at her job. It's a very competitive arena, and C4 News is widely regarded as the best TV news programme. That's why it mops up awards. Other news programmes are so dumbed down they're an embarrassment.

Since she got the presenting slot after the terrorist attack, we can reasonably conclude that her job is to be a smiling Hijab of Jihad after terrorist attacks. (Not surprising really, you're hardly part of the target demographic. ) If you were a C4 News viewer you'd know what her job is and you'd appreciate that her career trajectory is typical for a member of the C4 News team.

Erm to be honest this kind of swings towards proving the point for the "not all Muslims" argument.

The media portrays all EU exit voters as idiots, yet you know full well that they aren't.

Well given that standpoint, it's rather obvious to equally accept that not all Muslims have anything to do in the slightest with the bollocks that people try to ascribe to the entire religion and culture.
