On the way home from work today I spotted a couple of yoofs in the centre of town riding a clearly just-stolen Street Triple. Helmetless, hoods up, scarfs on and riding pillion on a German registered bike. They crossed the lights in front of me and proceeded to jump the next couple of red lights out of town.
So off they went and I continued my merry cycle home, feeling suitably sorry for the poor sod that’s just lost their pride and joy and had their holiday to ‘beautiful Edinburgh’ wrecked. Cut to 10 minutes later and I spotted the scrawny shits at the back of a housing estate, ragging the arse out of the bike.
Figured I’d at least take the plate and call it into dibble so I moseyed on over, casual like, and took a couple of pics as they were trying to lever off the petrol cap with a screwdriver.

I wish I had the balls to confront them but wot with them having a screwdriver and me only having a novelty bicycle hooter to defend myself with I thought better of it.
Called it into dibble though so hopefully plod will keep an eye out for it and it may be reunited with its owner. Going on recovery rates to date I’m most certainly giving more credit to Edinburgh flatfoots than they deserve, but I’d want someone to do the same if it were my bike.
So what’s the general thoughts on confronting thieving, pikey shits in the act? Would you have confronted them? The temptation was there but I figured some stranger’s bike ain’t worth me getting chibbed (or worse) over. ____________________ Story so far: RV125 VanVan > SV650 > Indian Scout > Triumph Thruxton, SV650 (again) & CG125 |

I intervene.
Over the last 5 years, I intervened in 3 'incidents' which I did not need to get involved with. In the first, the police arrived pretty swiftly but I'd already stopped the guy beating up his woman in the street. To give you an idea, he was 6'3, 20 stone and was quite happy to punch her in the face and push her in front of a car. All I wanted to do was eat my kebab.
The second was in a petrol station and the third was a brawl in a pub (4 people) that I stepped into in order to save the barman. I liked the guy so I thought it was only fair to help and I enjoy a punch up.
I walk into the middle and stop it if I believe it is the right thing to do, irrespective of the odds. If we all acted like that, criminals would fear us, but instead, there's a culture of fear that crims might hurt us. That is crazy. ____________________ FZR400 (blown engine), ZXR750 (blown engine), ZX6R (accident), CBR600 which had engine issues after which I learned to change gear..., CBR900, CBR924 (stolen), CB600, CB1300 (everything blew up), BMW K1300GT (written off, hit from rear while stationary), Bandit 1250 for a couple of months, Triumph Sprint ST 1050 (nicked) and somewhere in there, I wrote off a Ducati 748 at Cadwell. |

Poor German bloke, he'll forever hate us now.
Most yobbos are pussycats if you confront them. They're all mouth sure, but if it gets physical or you even square up to them they usually scarper. ____________________ I want your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle.

Perhaps there should be another number you can call which is answered by someone who is not the police and isn't interested in questioning them, mainly because they will have no answers that person is interested in hearing.
It is getting close to that point in Edinburgh now. I'm aware of a couple of cases now where scrotes have stolen the wrong bike from the wrong person and have lived to regret it.
If actions have real consequences, the theiving will stop. A week in hospital drinking their meals through a straw is probably the only way they'll think twice. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Mercenary justice for sale?
It would work for me! Reminds me of the film vigilante with 'Sean Bean' |

I 100% agree. I knew a guy who had an issue and resolved it in a certain way. It certainly stops things quickly and that's one less criminal out there doing bad things to good people.
Don't think a bike is worth enough to the people who do that sort of thing. I knew a guy who does stuff and he wouldn't get out of bed for the money he'd make recovering a bike.
Besides, he's truly terrifying. I wouldn't want to ever do business with him because, well, * scared * ____________________ FZR400 (blown engine), ZXR750 (blown engine), ZX6R (accident), CBR600 which had engine issues after which I learned to change gear..., CBR900, CBR924 (stolen), CB600, CB1300 (everything blew up), BMW K1300GT (written off, hit from rear while stationary), Bandit 1250 for a couple of months, Triumph Sprint ST 1050 (nicked) and somewhere in there, I wrote off a Ducati 748 at Cadwell. |
