MT10 OMG those are amazing figures.

Yamaha jump Honda, I'm sure that won't go unnoticed even if we are a small market.

They always used to release them on a Friday, I haven't resynced my periods yet.

That is a huge wow for Yamaha. More MT-10s than PCX125! Shocked

Good on them. Decent bikes at decent prices, they've earned it.

I wonder if Lexmoto are eating Honda's 125 sales. Thinking

A no show from Ducati - have we passed Peak Scrambler?

My understanding is that it's self categorisation. They could describe the Adrenaline as a tourer if they were feeling frisky.

The good news is that in a few years, there will be a fair few MT10's on the market. I will buy one 3 years old with low mileage. Can't afford new, so it's nice to know the bike I want is selling.

Depends I guess on whether something else comes out just as good that leaves the current buyers wanting something different.

Otherwise there might not be a lot of them on the market despite selling in volume, and as such demand for second hand will mean strong second hand pricing.

Not necessarily cheaply though - look at the Street Triple.

But the point is well made: high sales of decent bikes is great news all round.

No, this comes up almost every single time.

Tricycle

Machines that fit between Supersport and Touring bikes categories. Typical features include full or partial fairings and practical rider and pillion seating with low to medium ride

Supersport

These machines are designed to mimic or directly replicate racing bikes. They normally have full fairings and low handlebars and are sometimes referred to as race replicas.

Scooters

Have an engine, as an integral part of the rear suspension or the chassis is a step-through type, irrespective of cc or wheel size. Includes all types of transmission.

Touring

Bikes generally have large engines and are designed for long-distance riding. Typical features include a more comfortable seating position for rider and pillion, luggage carrying
capability and weather protection, such as fairings with a fixed or adjustable windscreen.

Naked

Machines are built to a basic specification with no fairing (or only a small handlebar fairing) and an upright riding position. Engines are large to medium and often called retro.

Trail/Enduro

These bikes encompass trials, enduro and trail bikes with an off-road or cross-country capability.

Yes, the MCIA provide descriptions, but who decides which bike goes where? The raw numbers are coming from the marques. My assumption (which may be backed by a 3rd hand internets anecdote that I can't recall right now) is that they also provide the category.

Why would the MCIA want to do that work, for every bike from every marque?

These reports are interesting, but is there any publication of the raw data so that we can ignore the questionably classified stuff? Turnover would also be a better way to rank the manufacturers.

A few things surprised me tbh,
Firstly 18geared 50's were sold, small but almost sizeable market in the sea of twist and go cheapo models.

Secondly the most selling off roader is a hard core snappy handful of two stroke big bore machinery. With all the nice mid size and ultra capable thumpers out there people are buying the savage strokers instead.

MT10 certainly looks like a winner. First time the Africa Twin's not been top for a few months IIRC?

Yamaha are still on a roll with their MT series.

I was under the impression that MCIA took the raw bike figures and categorised them. It's not a lot of work really and they have a month to do it in. And once you've done it for a bike model, you don't have to do it again. It's not like there's a new bike out every week.

The AT hasn't made the cut since April. I was speaking to a guy at the local dealer who was fed up with his, sometimes it wouldn't start other times it'd cut out. The dealer had had it in 4 times to fault find it and couldn't find anything.

I think it's probably the way to go these days, platform bikes. Yamaha are getting 3 bikes out of each of the MTs. Well nearly, not sure I expect to see an MT10 Tracer.

Conversely I bought my KTM from a Honda dealer - it'd come in for part ex against an Africa. The garage acts as a bit of a Hein Gericke style coffee house for bikers going out into the surrounding lanes. There were two guys there on AT's - one of them had pre ordered and took delivery at launch (mad fool). He'd done 6,000 totally trouble free miles and was loving it.

I know it's not a lot of miles but there are people out there buying and enjoying them hassle free, as well as the ones who inevitably have problems.

Oh I agree, but people with problems on their bike shout louder on t'internet - and there are a few examples.
