Anyone use TightVNC on here?

Just rolled it out across all clients (about 100 or so) Win7 clients are fine - after I created a rule for the F/W within ePO.

Win10 refuses to allow connection.

been onto a client an the VNCServer all looks happy an is set to allow connections

grr

Ive tried both normal viewer an java flavour too.

Indeed, unsure if it affects win10, but VNC should always have a password...

TCP 5900 should be open, you can download Zenmap to find out and run nmap -T4 -Pn IPADDRESS where IPADDRESS is the IP you want to connect to. This will list all ports that are open on the device.

Careful running nmap though, don't let it go on a whole subnet, you'll have your switches in a broadcast storm before you can say "I never actually read the manual". Ask me how I know.

I regularly run it for large networks, probably /20 sized. Only requesting 1 single port though and haven't had any issues. Thumbs Up

plot deepens further.

Windows firewall is off

Mcafee ePO firewall is on - i added the rule to open the port this morning, but its still closed.

Contacted Mcafee who have confirmed all looks good (firewall config) but i still cant access the port

As far as im aware there is no way of finding out if the clients have downloaded the new policies from the ePO.

grr

Go to client, check its installed.

If not, that is why 5900 is closed.

Can you even use zenmap to check a single IP and see if ANY ports are showing.

Yap, scanned 4 times now, always the same result

using cmd "namp -p 1-65535 -T4 -A -v IP"

135
139
8081

thats it

Also Telnet fails..

Application (TightVNC) is installed on client - I used PDQ deploy an have manually confirmed its been rolled out successfully.

back to Mcafee I go

On the Win10 machines, ALT+R Arrow resmon Arrow Network Arrow sort by port. Is 5900 even listening?

So its FW is off and allowing, last port is local installed software FW, likely your McAfee pile of dong. Disable it all and see if it works.

I had the very same problem, McAfee sees VNC as a threat. It was a while back so I forgot the exact fix, but it was down to telling McAfee to stop being a dick and leave VNC alone and then uninstalling vnc and reinstalling it.

Now that I think about it, tightvnc.com briefly got flagged by the ZScaler netcops as a malware site. Rolling Eyes
