On the way home from a rideout today I noticed this bike while stopped at a road junction

https://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv23/WiNot_Rhencullen/Snaps/20160829_155125_zps5xbxeuin.jpg
https://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv23/WiNot_Rhencullen/Snaps/20160829_155131_zpsfcshsnia.jpg

An obvious fault to me,but this bike was bought by its owner back in May of this year from Maidstone Honda and is due for its 4,000 mile soon, having covered nearly 3,800 miles without the owner having adjusted anything.

Look carefully at this pic and it is even more noticeable Shocked

https://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv23/WiNot_Rhencullen/Snaps/20160829_155118_zpsxqo38mnp.jpg

The back tyre is quite badly worn for so few miles and the chain and rear sprocket in a worse condition. If this is the standard with which Maidstone Honda punt out new bikes for learners,I would not trust them with a superbike Thumbs Down

Wait did they put 4000 miles on it or they bought it at 4000 miles?

Shock housing is bad.

Chain... a lot of riders neglect their chains.

Plus the wheel alignment is pretty bad. But if he's done 4000 miles shouldn't the owner have adjusted it? On my chain bikes I tended to adjust them every 500-1000 miles.

Wouldn't you feel the rear wheel being that much out of alignment? Shocked

Its a twin shock with a drum brake, lowest quality bike you can buy. What do you expect? When I had my CG125, work was needed every 200 miles or so. The shock mounts, are they supposed to be welded hanging off the swingarm..

Cant blame a dealer for lack of chain maintenance. I give mine 5 squirts of oil every morning.. tyre wear - probably a good thing so he can change to some decent ones.

I've seen Chinese branded bikes better than that.

I've seen worse Japanese ones, neglected maintenance. My first bike I abused and never checked, after that, you learn to check stuff like that.

Uh it looks like a Honda CBF125.

The bit above the rear reflector and the spoke pattern look like a CBF125

Might have been on the piss from the sweatshop (if it's like my bike-in-a-box, it'll have shipped with the rear wheel fitted), might be owner abuse. From the neglected state of the chain, I'd charitably assume the latter.

That looks like a CB125F. Split spokes, red shocks, well legit. It's a cheap Chinese bike rather than a cheap Indian bike. Either way, it's not totally fluxxed by now - that's progress of a sort for Honda.

It is a CBF125 (source: wife has one, I fucking despise the thing). They're built in India, and I reckon the QC department must have been off with dysentery when this bike was approved. It's full of really shit design choices and implementation. I still can't get my head around the idea of AC lighting on a fuel-injected bike.

Bad wheel alignment and a spastic chain. That is user issues though, not dealer.

Maybe a note on the bike would have been good. Telling the owner of his impending death.
Thats one of the worst attempts at maintainance Ive seen.

At first I thought that was rust on the chain or some weird wax goop but on closer inspection it looks like it's actually one of those novelty coloured chains?

OEM or user added farkle? Perhaps just a case of poor farkling by an inexperienced rider?

The rear axle bolt head and nut have been tightened/slackened at some point with poorly fitting adjustable spanner or the likes so my bet is that someone has had a go at it unless it was sold like that?

Its no different to a 1990 Brazilian cg125. Equally shit design choices for the sole reason of maximising profit. QC might have been slightly more existant, but is a defective poo any less of a poo?

When the 125 owner told me that he had bought the bike new from Maidstone Honda he had to ask for a tool kit as this was missing from under the seat for some reason. He said he had the owners handbook at home and so I suggested that maybe there was a list of the tools that should have been in that kit within said book, especially as there was no spanner for the rear wheel spindle nut.As I did not have what looked like a 17mm spanner in my R1 toolset we could not adjust the alignment,so he had to carry on with his journey from Eastbourne to Gillingham with it the way it was.

My initial question after I had the opportunity to ask him to pull over, was whether the bike tipped in to right handers okay but if he struggled around left handers.....and if he had to ride with the handlebars pulling to one side, which is what I would expect with the back wheel being as out of alignment as it was.The lad said that it had always been like this since the day he started to ride it in May,which suggested to me that it had not been PDI'd correctly from Maidstone Honda.

When the lad said that it was due for its 4,000 mile service soon,I did suggest that whatever he might consider spending on that service would be better spent on a workshop manual and a set of tools that would do at least a basic service.

Hopefully he will get it sorted before too soon Neutral

Gillingham is literally a stones throw from here. If you know his details, feel free to point him here. I have copious tools and chain lube Shocked
