Update: Ducati said this happened to one last week, no questions asked, soon as I said what happened they said use your Ducati Recovery, get it recovered to us and we'll replace all the parts. Might take 10 days though.
My duke finally living up to the Ducati reputation...

That nylon strap will chew your paint
I would've put a towel over it. ____________________ Current bikes: '08 VFR 800 VTEC(yo) , '07 ZZR1400 Winter hack: '95 Aprilia 650 Pegaso Currently lusting after: RC30 |

It's not actually touching any paint, it's round the plastic for the ignition.
Those blue bits are like fluffy protection from the main corse strap material, which probably would damage the paint.

Ducati have replaced the back pipe with a new one, also replacing my front discs as they had some markings on them. Not done too bad there but add £200 service on + £200 for new brembo pads all round + £130 front tyre, stings a little
He said the one that they fixed the other week with the same issue had a full termi system on it. They're not sure why it happens, just attributing it to the extra heat generated with no cats / full system.
Mine doesn't have a full system but it has decatted end cans. |

Extra heat generated from a decat/full system. That's a new one to me .
Exhaust will actually run cooler without a cat or if it's more free flowing.
It'll be from a poor design where the exhaust doesn't have space to expand properly or its not properly supported so over bumps the brittle heat treated stainless just cracks. All be it it's not a common issue though. ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.
