Hi, my daughter's just passed her cbt and bought a nvisionew 110 ( she's set her sights on a Harley though ! ) and I reckon she needs a helmet cam. Any recommendations ? About woo quid or so if poss. I was looking at the contour roam 3 with a helmet mount. So these mounts just stick on ? I have visions of the camera just flying off ! Any feedback would be appreciated !!! Thanks.

Body socket as helpful as ever I see.

What's driving that need?

Would be the least of my worries TBH. I'd rather get her to spend the money on training - fault isn't a function of limbs.

My helmet cam' came in useful, when two days later I crashed into the back of a van Embarassed

For now I'm sure she'll feel self conscious enough without being recorded. However techmoan does good action camera reviews. Not sure what his current fav's but the sjcam 4000 gets mentioned a lot. I've got a refurb drift HD and its been good (although drift stuff seems a bit hit and miss).

I've been using a Garmin Virb elite for the past few years. They have just brought out a new version, so you will probably get a good price on that now - there are two models, one with GPS and one without. I would say get the one without as I don't think the police will look at GPS as a true indicator of speed etc should it be needed, i.e. don't think a court will take it as evidence. I have the GPS as I do a lot of road cycling and do stuff with the data from that.

Battery will last about 3 hours, and a 32Gb card will get you about the same time in recording. I think that the helmet cam is a very good investment. I got taken out last year and the guy did a runner and then tried to claim he wasn't there, didn't know anything about it etc etc when plod caught up with him. Without the video evidence, who knows where I'd be, but with it a prosecution was obtained and my no claims bonus is still intact.

As for staying on a helmet, I used the supplied sticky pads and mount. It has stayed well and truly on my helmet come rain and shine, and has regularly been ridden at speed shall we say...

Personally I like the drift cams.

they come with plenty of mounts and are very easy to clip on and off

If you're not worried about decent sound and just want a cam to record any nasties that happen get the stealth, its small, compact and works well.

if she wants to rabbit on to herself like a nutter then go for the ghost s and get an external mic. now if you've got her a cheap helmet the mic will be near useless at speed but there we go.

i use the older HD with external mic in my helmet. i don't chat or upload vids but it makes the sound nice as it cuts out all the wind so you just hear the bike Smile but then i've got a decent, quiet helmet which helps a lot.

IMO Drift Stealth 2 is good option. With mixed feedback on this forum Laughing

I have one and I am happy with it.

£60 original SJCAM SJ4000 with wifi mounted permanently in a dash cam mode is also an option. Eliminates the hazzle to charge the helmet cam and/or to run out of battery exactly when you need it.

Must say my Drift Ghost has not been that impressive:
1) Prone to condensation in the lens and screen.
2) Mini-USB broke loose inside (replaced free though).
3) Picture and sound are not as good as gopro Hero3 let alone 4.
4) Often crashes soon after start-up, especially if you try to change settings.
To reboot you have to remove stupid fiddly back door hatch and pull battery.
5) Stupid fiddly back door hatch.

GoPro Session is good but pricey.
Does not need waterproof case and small, does not matter which way up it's mounted.
Lots of competent gopro clones coming out now less than half gopro price, e.g Xiaomi Yi. SJ4000 is still a good option from about £50, but avoid look-a-likes with inferior specs.

GoPro are still (just about) best - consider the Hero4 Black or Hero3 Silver, but I wouldn't buy one to only use as a helmet/bike camera.

Well, you obviously have your priorities nicely aligned; Lets let a young girl out on the road, unsupervised on what is statistically the most dangerouse form of motor-transport, with the scantest of training to do so, and no qualifications what so ever..... But HEY... sod the fact she is most likely to crash from doing something daft... lets JUST make sure we get video footage so we can argue who might be to blame while she's in A&E having the gravel rash treated!!!!!!

IF you have the money for a fucking action-cam... buy her some proper fucking LESSONS to better prepare her to NOT crash!!!

WHEN she has had enough lessons to be able to pass a bike test, and be a qualified 'new-rider' STILL most likely to crash through her own inexperience, THEN after a long list of other stuff far more helpful to saving her skin... an action-cam, after an accident, and she is however injured or worse, will still only be any good to argue the toss over culpability with the shy-locks... if that makes YOU feel any better.... it certainly wont take the sting out of even the mildest road-rash, and it certainly wont replace arms or legs!!!!!!

This notion make you re-consider your purchase priorities any?
