Anyone recommend a sub £100 pinlock included Lid please?

My first Lid so bit out my comfort zone Embarassed

It needs to look decent, good ventilation and safe although I will only be commuting to work on a scooter.

I know the most important thing is that it fits right but can any one mention some models please to look at.

Thanks.

I recommend that you go and try lots of different lids on to find what fits you best.

Thumbs Up

Fit is absolutely paramount. Go into the biggest bike gear shop that you can get to, try on everything that you can afford with a pinlock, and buy whatever fits the best.

Why go in with preconceptions based on one person saying "Yo, yo, you gots to gets you a Bongomongo lid, yo, I'm totes not dead yet, playa." ?

If you do, you're less likely to buy the best helmet for you.

Take someone that rides with you if you can because shop assistants in my experience have always got my sizing wrong. Their happy to take your money but trying to return a helmet because wrong size is the most painful experience you'll go through, best to get it right first time.

Helmets are subjective and not everyone can wear every brand. Work out what type of head shape you have and then what brands make for that head shape. All brands sizing are different and therefore M in one brand is not M in another.

Get a helmet that's designed for upright / touring since my experience of a sports style helmet, while it looked nice, didn't really function very well on my upright tiddler.

I can't stress how important it is to learn how to do all the checks you can to ensure helmet is the correct size. Again returning a worn helmet is almost impossible. Beside that it's bloody dangerous and will make opening and closing the visor a pain because it will move around on your head.

What outlet are you buying from? Look on their website and do Low > High on the search and see what ones include a pinlock. At that price I'd say they'd be pinlock ready rather than include one as standard but my knowledge may be outdated.

Trying on, as above, is most important. Stand in the mirror for as long as you need and make sure it moves your face when you pull on the chin bar, side to side, up and down and all around <dances>.

Ok I get the drift lads Laughing

https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/249996

Free returns so I could give that a go along with a few others.

I can't say I've ever seen a bike shop around Manchester although guessing there must be one or two somewhere!

We can't recommend brands as we don't know what shaped head you have or what feels comfy on it

I can say don't try buying your first lid online

I tried twenty or more helmets to find one that fitted

How can you do that ordering one at a time
It would take months

Something that fits (hamster cheek tight) AND doesn't give you a headache so you need to keep it on for 20+ minutes.

The first time they buy a helmet they don't. Very Happy

Then £200-£300 later they ride home wearing it and get a headache from it pressing on various points on their head. But it's used and therefore non returnable.

What I did last time was this;

Went into dealer/store (Thunderoad in my case) and tried things on until something felt right. Don't worry about them hovering like vultures, they get paid the same hourly rate whatever you do. Pick your favourite (HJC IS 17 for me), note the model number and go home. Fire up the web-o-net and keep searching until you get a good deal. Mine was £179 in the store, I got it for £99.99 including postage.

Boom.

Don't do this ^^^^^^^^^

If people keep doing this then more businesseswill go bust and eventually you will have to buy online and not try a lid on as there will be no shops to do it in

I have MT Tunder helmet the one without pin lock. The quality of the helmet is second to none Thumbs Up

Highly recomended.

MT are one of the biggest helmet manufacturers in the world and their helmets are great.

Laughing

On a serious note how important is having Pinlock? I intend to commute early mornings in all weathers.

That HJC I bought is my first pinlock, and I've got to say it's a bit of a revelation. Done up properly so it's sealed it stops fogging entirely, even on a really cold morning and even when sat still in traffic. I wouldn't get a lid without one now.

/thread

iow - think snug fit on/around cheeks; head/skull especially forehead snug can be very painful quite quickly, so aim for comfortable rather than snug there and by comfortable does not mean loose or baggy, just not pressuring

Yes to wearing for 20+ minutes. That's when my sportsball lid starts pressing a little.

Yes to pinlock, it makes a huge difference.

Come on, at least offer them the chance to match or get close to the online price.
