hi all
just getting ready to book my DAS after 2 years on a tiddler, went for an assessment day and they recommended the fast course for me which is
£500
day 1 - mod 1 training
day 2 - mod2 training
day 3 - both tests

i am slightly worried about failing mod1 and losing my mod2 fee though

other option is

1 day mod1 training and 1/2 day test = 329
1 day mod2 training and 1/2 day test = 355
total 684

not sure whether to risk it and go for fast track or to do it step by step mod1 then mod 2

if you fail, you fail. you're not going to know the outcome until you actually do it.

i passed first time when i didnt expect to.
my mate failed his first mod 2 when he was confident he would pass. its luck mostly (and my superior ability over his )

get it booked. see if you can book mod 2 far enough after mod 1 than IF you fail mod1, you can get a rebook in for a second go at it before you lose the mod2 booking

with the intense course it is 3 days in a row so you cant book mod2 far enough to not lose the money if you fail. i guess that is how the schools make some extra money. ill sleep on it tonight and have a think. i suppose if i failed on the intense course mod1 it is around 100 to repeat the test and around 150ish for mod2

I did both my tests on the same day (and passed), so if a sperg like me can do it you definitely can. I only had 1 year on a tiddler as well.

MOD 1 is easy. I'm a 3 time undefeated world champion.

Just to add a little more... I struggled with Mod 1 stuff. Obviously I don't have <insert today's name> level of skill, but I still passed. Anyhoo the point I wanted to make was part of the reason I struggled was that I got on the bike (a Bandit) and went straight into Mod 1 practice. On test day we had a long ride to the test centre and I got a feel for the bike, that's honestly why I think I passed. That's the danger with the intensive course, it doesn't allow for you to have difficulty with anything.

Btw OP £500 seems steep to me you've already got the road experience I should hope so after two years on the road.

First off I would book an A1 MOD 1 for £15.50 and see if you're capable of passing without lessons.

Assuming you do then all as you need the training school for is their bike nothing less nothing more.

Mod 1 is only £15 ish and can be taken on a 125, although it won't count for your DAS.

Why don't you give it a go first on your tiddler? It's minimal cost, you can turn up and do it by yourself without needing the instructor and if you can nail it on the tiddler, you should be able to do easily on the big boy bike after a days training?

Nobody benifits ìf you fail mod 1. No refund for mod 2, can't get someone else on it. Slot empty, examiner sits around for an hour. Only if it were last test and examiner got an early finish would someone actually gain.
Also, £500 for what your getting seems expensive.....are you located where there's no competition?

Seeing as you've been riding a tiddler for a couple of years, I wouldn't bother with DAS.

Find a school that'll give you an hours lesson just practicing mod 1, then book mod 1 test.

Ask same school for a couple of hours lesson practicing mod 2 (preferably on the test route(s). Book mod 2.

This is more or less what I did and although it didn't go exactly to plan (ie: I didn't pass first time) it still worked out cheaper than DAS.

500 is steep.

All in with cbt I paid 550. That included CBTday, 4 days worth of training, plus the two half mornings for both mod 1 and 2.

Think ill just do my tests on 125 now for practise then go for it. I live in croydon se london and pretty much all schools round here charge similar money for das and training usually around £600-700.london prices i guess. Have thought of borrowing my friend's and insuring but would cost alot as is a fairly new gsxr600

I found Mod 1 hardest out of the 2, although I think alot of that was due me trying to beat the new licensing laws

You've been riding (well?) for 2 years, so you should have the basics mastered by now.
If not, buy a cheap set of cones and practice the MOD 1 setup, hell even the measurements are available online if you've got a space big enough.

The point I'm making is, you're in no rush.
So sleep on it some more

TLDR: Buy a R1 straight after Mod 2
