Well your kit did its job. Your prize for not being a squid is being mostly intact.

It's suddenly become autumnal, do you think this might have been down to the difference in road temperature?

im thinking the road temperature probably didnt help, that and the fact it was soaking wet hours before and appeared to be bone dry.. so probably cold road, not as warm tyres and possibly some greasy shit.

obviously speed helped this but im not counting speed as ive done it faster

GWS dude. Thumbs Up

i was quite satisfied, when i saw my bike fucking off up the road i had thoughts of it being well fucked!

im not sure what took all the damage, i think the mirror and standard wings that are indicators took most of it, the clutch cover took a little grind but not all the way through which is impressive considering theyre magnesium, cost a fortune and always wear through and this ones on its 2nd crash on that side.

i do it coming down the hill too on the bend my bike ended up.. would have hurt more seeing as the barrier is right there.

stupidly i did it with cars around which i never do so i clearly had a mega brain fart moment.

The same day as you crashed I had a power slide off a roundabout which caught me by surprise a bit. I think the roads were especially greasy that day.. So perhaps not the best day to be going for KD.. Laughing

Are you banned from A&E ? tell them you really need medical attention this time as the internet failed to give a prognosis for a non specific injury.

Stop being anxiety Pol and go to doctors.

Go and get a refferal to a physio. They will give you the necessary exercises to help it heal. And make sure you do them.

Hope it feels better soon.

Common sense mate. You need the swelling to go down (restricted movement is because the muscles have gone into spasm to protect the joint, around which the ligaments are ripped), and when it does, you can begin a physio course. This can take a long time. If your shoulder felt 100% in less than a week before, that means you just pulled a muscle. This time you have a dislocated shoulder, a tendon is torn and your shoulder is hanging from the wrong place.

What you need to do:
1) Take ibuprofen (don't exceed maximum daily dose). Other painkillers won't do, because ibuprofen has anti-inflammatory properties that they don't.
2) Return to A&E. Complain of serious shoulder pain. Wait for a day in that waiting room if need be. Sorry. Then, when you're seen, make sure they note the range of movement and take X-rays. You need BOTH these things. They will then diagnose a dislocated shoulder and send you back with a referral.

Want to do it the hard way? Just wait it out. When swelling goes down, make daily visits to the swimming pool, until you can swim. This will take much longer. You really need a proper diagnosis. You will need to insist and make sure you're not fobbed off.

FYI this has happened to me before. I've been sent home with a dislocated shoulder from A&E after being told to take painkillers and wait it out, then been to see the doctor as the pain didn't subside, then been back to A&E where they properly diagnosed a dislocated shoulder. About 8 weeks wasted, for nothing.

i think im just too nice in not wanting to waste anyones time really, more so when people need the a&e more than i do.

i took ibuprofen + paracetamol every day since at 4h intervals, tried some herbal medication which improved it during but killed after.

its fine when i dont use it, as soon as i try using it then pain starts, driving a car changing gear does it every time

Got to sign off as I'm tired, but if you need something to take your mind off it, take an elastic band and cut it so you have a single length of elastic. Then glue it back together. Then pull it apart before it dries.

This teaches us 2 things:

1) The more you overlap the two ends, the more glue you can put on to stick them together.
2) You need to leave more time for the glue to harden or dry.

It's the same with human tissues like ligaments. They form scar tissue, which is like glue, or a weld. That's why, when you dislocate a shoulder, you put it in a sling. It's also why your body reacts to the dislocation by putting the muscles into spasm, locking up their range of motion.

Meanwhile, you still need to use that arm, so relieving that spasm a little, just enough to keep the muscles around the injured joint moving, is necessary. A physiotherapist would give you exercises with limited ranges of motion: isometric and isotonic movements with an elastic band or fixed objects. These will make you recover much faster than leaving it alone.

Nice of me to type all this, I know. You're welcome. Now it's up to you what you decide to do.

If you don't want to waste anyone's time at the A&E, then simply go to a walk-in clinic. My local has an x-ray machine there so I didn't even have to be sent elsewhere, it was all done in-house.

Definitely don't just leave a dislocated shoulder to it's own devices.

Been there, done that, had years of problems including my shoulder fully dislocating in my sleep because there was that little strength left in the joint.

Some areas operate minor injury units separate to a&e. Others combine the two in the same building and triage system to avoid redirecting patients.

Call the NHS non emergency line. They will likely panic, insist on sending an ambulance, intent on giving you a heart attack before they get there...

I used to like that hill.
Although never done it on a bike.

Despite what you might think, I'm glad you're still alive, Big-ears.
Hope the arm fixes itself soon xx
