Well, on the way home this evening on the M26, the exhaust all of a sudden sounded a hell of a lot louder than usual. Got it home and the link pipe has completely snapped in half, and the fairing which is pointed into a taper has gone into the end can making a cut so completely ruined the exhaust.

So - has anybody got any recommendations for a stubby exhaust system? I'd need to get the link pipe included too. Something loud, preferably carbon fibre but bot essential. I've done some searching online and seen a couple but I'd like to get recommendations from anybody who actually has fitted one. My budget is around £200. Anyone ?

Sadly the only Danmoto ones I can find on eBay are from Hong Kong. Really fed up paying import duties on stuff nowadays.

Not a true stubby but I have a Scorpion fitted to mine. Sound is great. I normally ride baffle in because I work shifts but the baffle comes out very easily and it gets way louder. Great fun when the mood strikes and doesn't affect the fueling negatively. Mine is the stainless one but they do a titanium one (Scorpion Serket) also I believe. I just bought the slip on but I believe some of the later years are not detachable from the down pipes, could be wrong though. Some aftermarket downpipes are likely to have a larger impact on fuelling.

I paid circa £200 for the slip on at the Scottish Motorcycle Show so there will likely be good discounts from them at the MCN show next month if you're going.

I've got a Delkevic carbon shorty for that exact bike. Had it on for 5 minutes, but too loud. Ping me if interested.

It will be the headers that have snapped, right before the can. Depends on the state of the studs as to how easy it is to change.

Delkevic also do stainless headers.

Thanks for all the info fellas. Its appreciated. I managed to secure a Demon Exhausts (which are a UK company manufactured by SP Engineering) stubby can, link pipe and fittings for £150. I previously had an SP can on my CB500 and was really impressed by the sound, quality and ease of fitting. Their customer service is really good too.

I did look at the Delkevic systems (including the down pipes) but simply can't afford one at the moment.

The damage was where the link pipe meets the header pipe and where the fairing has pierced the stubby can. Sounds terrible and there's no back pressure at all.

Please post an update of how it sounds when you've fitted it. Thumbs Up

Well, the exhaust came today - quality looks really good. Couple of problems though. The Oxygen Sensor on the old link pipe just won't come out. Its stuck fast and no amount of heat, GT85 and brute force will remove it so I've given up on trying to refit that. I'm not sure whether to buy a new sensor or just blank the opening off and fit a sensor eliminator plug like the one listed below:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oxygen-lambda-o2-sensor-eliminator-Complete-kit-Kawasaki-er-ER-6f-2006-2015-/261523003760?fits=UKM_Make%3AKawasaki&hash=item3ce3fc5970:g:98kAAOSwvt1WRbig

I'm thinking that if its a new straight through exhaust then there's not much point in fitting a new sensor anyway and the cabling can sometimes rub against the fairing causing it to short. Has anyone else done this and if so, did it make a difference to the fueling?

Also, I think I need a new link pipe gasket. The old one just won't come out either and I don't really want to start poking and prodding in case it damages it. So need to find another one of them.

My first port of call would be Lextek, can get a stubby well within your budget & they have a good rep' on a lot of the FB pages i'm part of. Clicky. You may need to contact them about a link pipe though, the guy who does a fair chunk of their sales/advertising is called Paul, extremely sound bloke.

Failing that - A16, SP Engineering, Delkevic and Danmoto appear to offer some alternatives. You have a fair few options Thumbs Up

Well it looks like I'll have to replace the downpipes too. There's a chunk of pipe that's snapped off near the end can. I'm looking at Delkovic downpipes as they seem to be the most reasonably priced at the moment.

How difficult a job is it? Never done header pipes before but I've heard some horror stories of rounded off nuts and snapped bolts. Any tips?

Try not to round the bolts off or snap them? Thumbs Up

Douse in penetrating oil, prey to the exhaust stud gods, heat the stud, prey again. Have a stud extractor kit on standby.

You might get lucky to be fair. As another alternative, have a look at Black Widow exhausts/Sandy Bike Spares. Cheap for a reason, but cheap.

Sadly Black Widow are out of stock on down pipes.

OK, looks like I'll be dousing it in Plusgas and getting out the butane.

You might get lucky. First time I did it they came out without too much trouble. Looking at them again recently after a couple of extra years riding and I'm really hoping I don't have to go for it again before I sell it.
