Xenon's/NightBreakers/SuperMegabright bulbs (basically whatever name), great do it.
HID in reflector headlights, imagine an idiot driving/riding towards you with high beams on. That's what it can be like.
HID in projector headlights, but not as factory fitted, are acceptable. On cars at least they must have auto-leveling and wash on the lights. Not sure what is accepted on a bike. ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |

You have to ask why it didn't have a 55w bulb originally. Because it could have. That's pretty much the standard headlight bulb wattage. I'd suggest it had a 35W because it couldn't handle a 55.
Is it actually any better? Often times when you fit an overly large bulb on a small bike, it lands up dimmer than the proper one. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

As said, if it's just a bulb, then you're fine. It's the actual HID conversions that are against C&U regs to retrofit. Couple that with an L plate, and coppers will be all over you like a rash.
I have a much better bulb (Osram Nightbreaker), installed on a light that was designed for a 35W bulb. If you fit the higher power bulbs, you really need to fit a cutoff/power switch for low beam, as YBR's don't have switchgear on the right hand bar, and low beam is on if the engine is running. You won't melt the wiring, but if you get a long set of lights on red, you may well melt your reflector. It's fine when moving, but a cheapy/plastic reflector will get messed up quick sharp at a standstill. It's why I am waiting on parts to put a new headlamp on, because the part of the reflector directly above the bulb has been very heat affected. |
