PostPosted: 15:43 - 01 Dec 2016    Post subject: Accelerator cable not long enough?? Reply with quote

The bike i am riding at the moment is a Suzuki gsx600f, the guy I bought it off turned it into a naked bike and put rental bars on it instead of the clip on bars that are usually fitted to the bike, meaning the handle bars are further away from the carbs meaning my accelerator cable is stretched!!! It revs on its own when I turn the handlebars to the right!!! Just wondering what cable do I fit to stop the problem?? It's routed as well as it can be but I'm thinking something 4 inches longer will completely solve this problem?? Any help is much appreciated Smile thanks in advance.

I would imagine you would have to buy a new cable of the correct length

Venhill are good Thumbs Up Made me a longer clutch cable for my Speed Four.

Before you get something longer have a look see if you can reroute the current cable. I got away without changing my Throttle cable because I ran it a more direct route.

Seems a bit silly renting your handlebars.

Try off the shelf bandit throttle pull cable, pattern ones are a tenner. I suspect it will fit.

So you'll be looking for a bike, in a breakers that just happens to have the same mods as yours, in the hope that it has the correct length throttle cable. Good luck with that! Never heard the phrase "needle in a haystack"?
Seeing as your bike will fail an MOT, in it's current state, follow the Borg's links and get your wallet out!

The other way is to snip it near the end, and solder a length of (preferably braided) steel wire to it with a mini blowtorch and high-temp solder, with as much overlap as you can. If it fails, of course, it will be dangerous. But if you're good with soldering, why not?

stop trying to be clever its not working, you sound stupid, if i found the same bike as mine with the same mods as mine i would find an accelerator cable which is the same length and still would not be long enough?? IDIOT!! and why would i want to spend hundreds of pounds on a brand new custom cable if i could find a good condition bandit 600 cable for about £20 as talktothehat just suggested?? you need to think before you type mate

You want to buy a second hand, non standard, throttle cable and I'm an idiot, Rolling Eyes , you're a total fukwit or a troll, so how about you just FRO, bellend! Middle Finger

Hi

Last custom cable I had made by Venhill came to about £45 once postage and VAT was included. These days I have a kit to make them up myself when I need them.

Whether the cable will fit will also depend on the end fittings and the amount of free play, not just the length.

All the best

Katy

You either have no idea what you're talking about or no idea what I'm talking about. A second hand standard cable off a different bike. That will fit straight on. Go back to sleep.

You were given a link earlier in the thread, where you can have a cable made up any size or length you want for under £30!
But you want to save a few fcukin' pennies and buy a secondhand cable from a breakers, that may or may not be the right length and may or may not work for more than a day before it snaps or jams up on a frayed bit, FFS! And apparently I'm the idiot here! Rolling Eyes

Pray tell why having a cable made up to the correct size and length is so much worse than buying some manky old tat from a breakers, a part which neither you or the vendor can verify is in good nick? I'm all fcukin' ears!

You're not my "mate", you're a knob! Middle Finger

Why would a throttle cable from a different bike "fit straight on"?

Motorbikes are not like Lego, you can't just take bits from different bikes and expect them to work together. You may get lucky, or it may get very painful very quickly.

I'd just talk to Venhill or similar and get them to knock you up a cable of the length you need.

Or take the Renthal's off and put it back to standard. If you wanted a naked high bared bike you should have bought one that was designed to be that way from the get go.

I assume you've checked your brake line length as well? Given the previous owner was clearly prepared to run it with a throttle cable of the wrong length, I'd check they're not about to go ping under full extension of the forks.

So what you want is someone else to TELL YOU exactly what cable will fit your bike so YOU can save a few P's... Rolling Eyes

You are aware that different bile's use different fittings etc. So it's not just a simple oh look a Yamaha "Divvy" is 4 inch longer so that will do you kinda job. Embarassed

Can't see you getting any help here with that type of attitude when people are only trying to help Twisted Evil
