I saw one of these today in green and silver. I think it was the 900 as it had the pods on the side of the frame.

These did not look that nice in the pictures especially with the small headlight, but in real life its bloody lovely

Also thought they were pig ugly until I saw the XSR 900 at motorcycle live recently.

Now seriously considering getting one when I (might) get rid of the Bonneville this spring. Look great in the stainless steel style silver colour. Basically a more retro styled MT09 (with less snatchy throttle by all accounts).

Echo your comments here, didn't think much of them on paper, but one went past me the other day and it looked the dogs! As above it was the sort of gunmetal grey colour - really smart. Hid the road gunge well too!

It ain't too bad for a modern effort is it? Yamaha seem to have the retro modern style thing worked out better than all the other japs put together and then some.

I don't like the small headlight on them and the modern friendly hug a tree huge exhausts and daft tail piece things. As ever I think the 07 looks better than the 09 and nicer finished.

I just hope they leave the idea of making a modern throwback LC350 replica, unless they go full on with the original styling. The 07 would be the easiest to make into a wannabe LC, but IMO would still need frame changes and more original bodywork.

I tried my hardest to get a 900 at launch, in the yellow and black anniversary colours, but they'd completely sold out on pre-orders.

I still haven't bought anything as an alternative.

Also forgot to mention that it a rather nice zorst on it as well.

Never got to see which one, as I was on the left of it at all times.

The XSR 7 I think is physically smaller than the XSR 9, either way, I do fancy a test at some point in life.

I've got the 700, I love it.

But...budget to get the optional ohlins suspension, the standard stuff is "fine" but easily out ridden on poor roads or at brisker pace.

I'd be into the 07 one - I think it'd be comfier on the arse than the bog standard one, courtesy of a slightly more generous subframe (which sadly does add weight). Maybe the Tracer would be the way to go for me on the 07, although heavier again iirc.

The MT does have a comfort seat option apparently, but I've heard say it doesn't make any odds. I think the ergo issues are a perhaps a bit more deep rooted than a slightly different kind of foam in the seat base can sort out.

Also I agree with stevo - the diameter of the light has always struck me as wrong, i.e. too small, and seeing it in the metal didn't change that.

Whether 07, xsr or tracer, I'm pretty sure I'll have one at some point though.

I have the 700 and would echo the point about rear suspension being only adequate on bouncy roads though setting it firmer helps.
The seat is not overly comfortable for long runs but had worse.
MT07 is probably a better all round buy if you want to tour with it.

It looks odd just being the tank, a rear spring and gold USD forks (like the MT-09)? The MT-09 in KR colours looked more impressive IMO:

Both the 700 & 900 could do with a chrome headlight Cool Also it looks like the 900 has a more aggressive riding position than the MT-09, when the 700's less aggressive than the MT-07?

Looking at the specs isn't the MT07 just a posh SV650? 70bhp twin built to a price? I would think the MT09 / XSR900 would be a much better laugh.

I bought a new XSR700 in mid-2016. It was a second bike to an R1 at the time. I liked the style and simplicity, and the VFM, and after a fairly long test ride, my impression was that it was really quite dynamically capable for what it is, and great fun at sane speeds.

I enjoyed it for a while, but that didn't last long. After a few hundred miles, I was bored with the engine performance, and very frustrated with the unnecessarily soft, unadjustable, crude suspension. The chassis is (IMO) as good as anything else in its class (better than most), but it really is let down by the budget suspension. Same with the MT-07, and with the MT-09/XSR900 to a lesser degree.

I sold it immediately after the first service.

I now have a Street Triple R for the same job (second bike/runaround). It's so much better than the XSR700 in every respect, and better than the XSR900 in most respects. A bit more expensive new, but there are many bikes available used.

Yeah makes sense - my only comment would be that the 09 was said to suffer from poor fuelling. A "maintenance throttle" when cornering was apparently difficult, and it went weird and surgey until it got through the bend. Have to say though that this wasn't felt to be the case by the couple of 09 owners I know. In any case, it's apparently been addressed in more recent versions. By contrast, the 07's fuelling was always said to be smooth and as it should be - the ergos, less so. I'd like a decent go on both.

That's quite funny in that a xsr or STR or whatever I get will be my fun bike in addition to a commuter, if and when I can find the funds!

But that's the point. I dont use any bike as a commuter. The second bike is also a 'fun bike' - just one that isn't as focused as a superbike. I enjoyed the XSR for a little while. The STR is much better finished, and significantly more dynamically capable. I doubt I'll get bored of it any time soon, and I wouldn't be particularly upset if it were my only bike.

I agree, the tubular frame and proportions just look better than the 09 aesthetically (agree about the headlight too).

I was considering the 09 as a replacement for the Street sometime but the more I looked at it I could find no significant gains to be had over my Triumph.

Also yes the Abarth edition was at Motorcycle Live, as nice in the flesh as the pic Drooling
