Not really Wink
Just binned my bike for the first time Thumbs Down Motoring along to uni and the car in front of me slams on the anchors on a clear road Confused So on go my brakes. Due to the fact that my road has been a building site for the past year its covered in mud and oil and assorted crap that now includes scrapings of my bike Crying or Very sad over I went. As testimony to the awareness of the driver in front of me, they simply drove away as if nothing had happened which in thier world I suppose nothing had.
My right hand is smashed, but I don't think broken. My head bounced, but feels OK now. As for my poor bike... Surprisingly light as far as damage appears to go. Cracked the nose fairing, but I'd miraculously decided I couldn't be arsed to put the main fairing back on yesterday. A scrape on the R/H engine cover too. That appears to be it but I didn't check too close.
Bugger Thumbs Down

How does insurance work at times like that?

Granted in this off you couldn't claim even if you hit them because you was following too close (in the eyes of insurance).

But if someone pulls out from a side road for example while you're on a major road and you swerve to go round the front of the car. He slams on his anchors and you just about clear the front of the car but come off/hit something. Can you claim against that person? Are they legally required to stop seeing as they weren't actually involved in an accident?

Rick.

P.S > Bloody weather. Had a great time yesterday after work, now we're back to snow.

Before joining this forum I never really worried about coming off. Hasn't happened yet, but now I'm getting bloody paranoid reading all the offs people are having on here. This is about the fifth this weekend.
So take it easy everyone. The roads are covered in salt that's been crushed into a powder and makes the surface like glass (fills in all the ruts to give a glazed surface) There's no grip and if it rains on top of it your basically riding on greased roads. Roundabouts are death traps at this time of years coz all that crap (along with a few deiseal spills) has been pushed to the outside and if you get in this stuff your fooked.
Warmer weather and a few good downpours will clean the roads in a month or two and then you'll see fewer threads like this one.
So make sure your all here to enjoy the summer.

Well, further investigation shows that the damage was as above, but also scraped the end of the brake lever, and ran scarring all down the side of the end can Thumbs Down However, I desperately need to replace the exhaust anyway so not too bad.
On the plus side, my Frank Thomas jacket has proven itself incredibly sturdy. Despite hitting the floor with and then sliding along on my shoulder there's barely a pulled thread on it Thumbs Up

I was told that unless you actually collide, then there is pretty much nothing you can do. The policeman I was talking to (at someone elses accident) said that its almost better to make sure you hit the car. I would say its never worth risking personal injury.

Meh, sure your bike has come out with some battle scars, but it could of been worse for yourself. It happens to all of us, its just a part of riding, you learn from mistakes, (in theory) makes us that bit more aware.

Thumbs Down @ The car driver. Could of had the common courtesy and at least asked if you were ok. Confused

Just have to dust yourself off, pick the bike up and carry on. Glad you're ok though. Thumbs Up

That's it though mate, they had no idea I was there before or after I came off IMO which was why they slammed their anchors on so hard apparently without reason or care.
But you're totally right, I seem to have come away rather well with the exception of my hand and some light grazing Thumbs Up Very Happy

Well Ive let my tyres down from 30psi to 25psi just for that extra bit of grip.

Touch wood ive only had one off with my new scooter and that was my own fault doing wheelies.

Yes, Grit salt is stupid. Not only does it corrode your bike, it also dosent give grip at all, It only makes the road surface loose and shit for turning!

with a bit of luck I should be driving by may so I will have a car to tackle next winter with Twisted Evil

Sorry to hear about the off mate! I smell a streetfight comming on Cool
