 |
|
Hello, looking for some advice on what i should expect to get for 1300quid.
I have seen this fazer (2000 reg) and i want to buy it now! It starts fine and sounds good. The guy said he will throw a new rear tyre on for me, its done 36k miles, has no history i believe. It has a small dent in the tank and one of the indicators is cracked.
Apart from that it looks fine imo, just wondering if anyone else can see some i cant or has any input. some pics below. Thanks.

It it on the original exhaust? At a lower mileage than that my Fazers' exhaust literally dissolved before my eyes, I mean solid one day, a couple of weeks later looking like a Swiss cheese. It's the collector box underneath the bike that goes, and it goes from the inside so having a feel around underneath won't tell you much. Be warned the exhaust studs can also rot horribly so getting the pipes off of the head can be 'challenging' to put it mildly.
Rear brake can gunge up and seize, so check you've got a braking effect when you press the pedal.
Speed sensor in the front wheel hub can shatter internally, I'm on my third one so far, but only about £20 for the part, and if you can take a front wheel off you're more than competent to fit it yourself.
That apart if it looks ok and rides ok it's probably a good'un. Fazers don't have many issues.
Price wise? Seems a bit OTT to me. ____________________ They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa, hey-hey,

Looks like some Dodgy Dan independent dealer, yes? You're always going to get mugged compared to buying private.
I wouldn't pay that much for one, not with that mileage, even if it had a year's MOT and nothing obviously needing done to it. Certainly not without a test ride. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Overpriced imo.
I was a bit lucky, but my 2004 (underseat exhaust version) FZ6 is/was in much better condition, and i got that for 1,250. ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands |

Why is it inherently more risky? I'd trust a bike that was in regular use and where I could look the owner in the eye rather than one that's been chopped in to get rid of it.

At that end of the market, I'd expect any explicit warranty to last until your payment has cleared, and statutory rights claims to be handled by Mr Grip and Mr Fang in Customer Savaging, if you don't get your mucky boots off my property sharpish. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

That's not the one I'm talking about although I have looked at that one. I phoned them up and got told the headlight was damaged but still works. The fairing on the left is cracked. He said the front fairing and headlight would need replacing but apart from that it's OK. Seems too cheap that one though.
Thanks for the replies, I'm struggling to decide on what to buy here. My budget is about 1500quid if anyone knows of a decent bike going. Thanks. ____________________ Current Ride: Fazer 600 (02) & YBR125 (07) |

Seems a bit pricey to me, but I blame BCF ... every time somebody asks "what bike?" you say "Fazer".
I looked at some a year or so back and I thought they were all overpriced.
Ended up with a Bandit. I'm not unhappy. ____________________ Triumph Sprint ST 1050. And it's Red. |

When people are saying this is overpriced what are they comparing it too? I can't find any other fazers (in good condition) or similar bike for 1300quid. Am I missing something? If anyone can recommend me one it would be appreciated. I want something that's going to get me to work and back without hassle for a few years before I upgrade thanks. ____________________ Current Ride: Fazer 600 (02) & YBR125 (07) |

I could find this one advertised at £950. Assuming that they're both around the same mileage and both bikes are OK-ish, which may be an assumption too far, then I would say this one is the better deal. Especially given that it's a London seller, which means he'll probably happily take £750 for it, and it has a new tyre, chain and sprockets. All expensive stuff, and if he bought all that then he probably maintained it to a basic standard at least.

Its not worth 1300.
The reason why you probably can't find better examples is because it is winter.
Three months from now there will be bikes a plenty to buy for reasonable prices. ____________________ yzf 600r |

I only paid £925 for mine...
02 plate, 40k on the clock, FSH, no MOT, 2 new tyres, heated grips & a full tank of petrol...no dents or cracked indicators.
Passed MOT with no advisories
Best to check out your local Facebook buying/selling pages as thats where I got mine from! I just put a post out saying I just passed my test and seeing what people were selling...
