@arry
Luckily it's about a 30 mile round trip for me to my local Aprilia dealer and they are a big place as well (Rocket Centre Blackburn), so not too bad on that front, it's about the same as my Ducati dealership now anyway.
@conzar - I have seen that video too many times
@tom_e - Exactly what I said in my post! Parts are a twat (if you need them) and could write your whole summer off.
@Liam_ - Really? Everyone I know with S1Ks swear by them :/
Head is saying get an RSV4
Guy I know has had 2 RSV4s, think 09 and 12 plates and they have both had a gear go on them but I'm not sure if they have sorted all this out or not, it seems the 16 plates really ramped up several notches in line with all the other 200bhp / super electronics gizmos and other tricked out goodies on the bike. |

Looks wise, they look much better than the S1K, hands down. Looks wise, my 1299 is one of the best looking bikes out there, it's beautiful but I'm bored of it and I want another bonkers machine to hold my attention for a 12 - 18 months.
The new ones are £19,999 |

I'll wait until mid march now before committing to anything because that's when everyone chops in their 16's for 17's and I'll snap a bargain up, as someone will snap my 1299 up
All the 17 models will be Euro 4 compliant as well? |

The RSV4 is noticeably more cramped than the S1000RR and the 1299. That might matter, so if you haven't done so, take a test ride to at least check the comfort.
Notwithstanding the ergonomics, the Aprilia would be my choice of those two, no question (more exotic, V4 engine, better looking, top shelf components, more focused). But then I prefer the 1299 to both. I'm completely with you on the 'try different stuff' front. Change can be a good thing for its own sake, but I don't think you can get better than the Ducati for involvement and a sense of occasion, and you might find yourself wanting another in the not too distant future.
If you expect that you'll end up owning both in one order or the other, then just buy the one you can find the best deal on? |

I guess I'm more into the whole appeal of the person that's owned the same bike for twenty years and tried several different incarnations, wheels, forks suspension and bodywork. And been through a few engines over the years.
I like the PB mantra of don't trade, upgrade. But it's not for everyone and a guess say spending 10grand on a 98R1 still won't be as special as some of the new interesting bikes? |
I literally have zero interest in doing that mate, each to their own.

I don't think I will regret getting rid of the Ducati, I've had my fun on it and can tick it off as a dream bike to have owned but I want to try a fair few more bikes out before I decide on coming back to it in several years time. However, if the rumours are to be believed, Ducati might release a V4 next... now that would be a tasty burger!

In your opinion
I'll wait until mid March yet, see all the bikes that flood the market and see if I can snap up a minter. To be honest, I don't have my mind particularly set on either but I know if I saw an S1000rr and RSV4 both at the same time and I had a choice, I'd go with the RSV4 but if there isn't anything about... I'll grab the S1K as they are far more common. |

Whilst this is entirely true, having spannered for my mate Pete at BSB and NG club events, placing 9th at Donny in the wet on a terribly underfunded bike in the superstock BSB 600 class and ultimately winning several NG championships, including placing 2nd in the open class on a standard Triumph 675R vs. many R1ms and RSV-Rs, I would argue that any performance over that of a relatively standard Sv650 on the road is wasted. Any advantage comes from the standard of the rider, and generally that comes from the gradual build up of the rider on horseshit bikes.
I can totally understand being bored of the bike you have presently. But to totally block the possibility that the reason you are bored is because the performance of said bike is totally unreasonable on the road in general and you could have far more fun pushing a lesser machine harder would be somewhat foolish.
I am just saying. I ride a pig of a turbo bike that weighs a good 50kgs heavier than any of the bikes mentioned in this thread, but will hold a crotch rocket to the wall when ridden well, also a 250cc CBR RR that is never left behind on the Island by the sportsbike club, which suffice to say, offers a good cross section of modern angry litre+ bikes.
Plus I think that the bike you have presently is the most wonderfully gorgeous machine presently available on the market. I have to stop and stare when I see one. Especially as when I race one on the strip I usually can't see it due to it being behind me. ____________________ Bikes: too many, too much for one man to maintain anyway. |

I'm glad you get a kick out of riding said bikes but I don't. Let's not turn this in to a debate about whether they are suitable bikes for the road |
