Not being a fanboy here or owt but the difference with bvg and the rest, they waited until they had a following before they tried to punt stuff, tis the internetz business model 101.
This lad hasn't got a clue, sat here trying to remember if i was that up my own arse at his age, wasn't that long ago |
I agree, he's trying to do in 5 mins what took them years, but on the sticker front I don't even understand covering your bike in monster stickers (unless it's a genuine race replica).

My dream is to make a motorcycle trip and video series across the USA. It would mostly involve bad British humour and mis-understanding Americans.
$2000 would greatly help in the funds needed to make such a series.

Why should I work my arse off 9-530 5 days a week and give you any of that crap apprentice wage, so that YOU can go and enjoy a holiday?
Go get a job, if that's not enough go get a second one, I know people working 2 jobs just so they can get a license and a nice big bike. Beg. |
Oh so he really isn't in it for the money It's like that kid who turned up expecting to be given 2k to start vlogging. |

He's looking to get 2k per month for going out on a Sunday bimble and speaking shit?
OP, if you're still lurking, that is not an entrepreneurial venture - you're contributing nothing to anyone. It is begging and you are an entitled disgrace. ____________________ CG125, CBF250, DRZ400-SM, Z750, Street Triple R, Tuono V4R

YouTube's karma system is nearly as broken as BCFs: my understanding is that any engagement counts positively for ranking. Dislikes, commenting that he's a tedious fucknugget, it's all gravy for Tarquin's career. |

In the old days you had to be a pretty girl and bat your eyelids, or a street person with drink or drug problems to beg for money. Now it seems that everyone feels 'entitled', and nobody has a dad to give them a slap and tell them that begging puts you instantly at the bottom of the human dungheap. It's fine if you need to beg to survive. After all, survival comes first. But for an able-bodied young man to beg, not just for "tventy paey guv'nor" but 2000 POUNDS for an American holiday or a new bike?!! If this is society in Britain today, and this is the calibre of young people now, we are truly F*CKED. |
Apparently the street beggars aren't even genuinely homeless anymore I don't understand it, maybe it's a by-product of the celebrity "I'm special because I'm me" culture, people think they're amazing and everything they do is therefore amazing.
Also it has to be instant, granted when you're young you have a slightly skewed perspective on time, and generally with success stories they focus on the 12 months when someone made it (ignoring the years of hard work before that). |

A good few months back a beggar (notice I didn't say homeless, he even had a nice car I think) actually complained on social media because the main guy from X-Factor (forgot his name, his not important to me :/) only gave him £10 or £20.
To further lessen your faith in humanity there was a show on how a woman on benefits was talking about her 'hard life' as she was getting in a (newish) white Audi... so yeaaaaaah |

It's nothing new, it's just that the Internet makes it more visible. Much the same as society isn't dumbing down, it's just that the morons now have a visible and wide public prescence whereas before the Internet existed they just bored the shit out of their circle of friends or anyone who would give them half an ear in the pub.
I can remember adverts in the small ads section of music papers like 'Sounds' saying things like "Decent electric guitar needed for talented musician - sorry man, no dosh". Every week there would be a good few of these in among the normal ads. You'd find similar begging ads in the back of other magazines - Time Out (London yoof "wot to do" mag) was like that too. I always wondered if anyone was gullible enough to fall for them. |

I accept what you guys are saying. In two cases it's a grey area.
First, where the monies received are as a part of genuine patronage. The legacy of artist patronage, where a wealthy sponsor would provide a stipend to a talented and trained artist, was a major philanthropic object from the time of the Renaissance until well into the 20th century. Culture depended on it, and many of the great civilisational achievements that we regard as 'heritage' today wouldn't exist at all but for it. However, the crucial difference between this and the exploitation in prevalence today with the likes of Patreon is that artist patronage was a matter of full and complete dependence and support from a single sponsor towards a person of special distinction by reason of expert, often expensive, training over many years. That person was then supposed to use their time to produce something.
Second, where the monies received are after the fact of receiving and benefiting from a product or service, and are considered owing to the producer in a sort of trust, should the person benefiting from that product or service decide to keep that product or service. The shareware model. It works well, because you can 'try out' something if you're not sure whether you want to keep it. If you do, then your conscience tells you to pay the consideration.
With both models, traditional artist patronage and shareware, the people involved are special because of some ability, talent or skill that they have. Neither the shareware developer nor the virtuoso are given anything unless they can actually produce something of calculable, tangible value. The philanthropist might be thinking about boosting the value of his estate, or sustaining an artistic tradition, etc. and this is worth £n to him. He isn't giving charity. The end-user installs the shareware and decides to keep it depending on whether he personally gets some benefit from it. Therefore they are both alternative payment models, not charity at all.
All right-thinking people find the abuse of charity disgusting. A few years ago an old woman died destitute because she was harangued by professional charity beggars and, although herself poor, was so moved by the plight of others that she gave away even her own sustenance. In the past there was a major charity in Britain for the benefit of distressed gentlepeople, and that charity targeted people too proud to seek out any sort of help from others, and basically put money in their hands to help them survive. Old working people, and you can still find a few like them, who found themselves fallen upon hard times used to go around to building sites and look for manual labouring work, ignoring all their health problems, etc.
Considering all this, and this average type of guy with no special talent, shouldn't he be encouraged to go to America on his own steam, saving up the money doing a useful job rather than motobegging? Of course it's a worthy goal for any young person to visit America and have a little bit of fun. But there are certain realities about life which the majority population, who aren't Leonardo Da Vinci, need to appreciate. It's just ugly that he describes himself as having a 'big ego' but hasn't the self-respect to do that for himself. There are far more worthy charity recipients in this world. ____________________ Safety in numbers |

Clearly quite a few or BvG wouldn't have made them. Frankly I find it hilarious. |
Mordeth13's videos were something I watched many years ago before I could ride myself. BvG's stuff is relatively original and RoyalJordanian's lack of talking and only the key points works okay for me.
Although I am suscribed to all three and just checked, I havent watched any of them since October. There is a market to get suscribers and monetise these things but I think it is niche and oversaturated. Would not get a sticker unless it was promotinf something else. Maybe if BigShow could mentiom MTP as followup to his theft vid?
For a social type experiment, I will record my own commute and thoughts on my commute for a week soon and upload to see if anyone cares. I mean I don't care and forget to turn the insurance purposes camera on most of the time anyway so... ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |
