Use some insulation tape on the top 3rd of the headlight so that it doesn't blind on coming drivers so as to get it home.

It's your bulb because when you press the pass button it uses the main beam to create the flash effect and so your bulb is faulty because I have had that same problem a year ago when I could only use the dip part of the bulb.

12v 60/55 watt and I've already supplied a pic of what it looks like !

You can buy it from Halfords and petrol stations/garages usually stock a selection of headlight bulbs and so they may have that one or you could buy via this link;

do both of your headlights goto dip ?

You'll need to inspect the high beam relay as it should click when you flip the switch to high beam and if it doesn't check for a loose connection and/or check for a blown fuse otherwise you maybe looking a new high beam relay.

Here's info from VFR400 manual in regards to headlight.

Err if it's an import spec nc30 (which most are) a UK spec 60/55 bulb will not fit without modification to the bulb, and fiddling with the electrics. Think the Jap spec is 60/35 watt or something similar with differently spaced tabs.

A local shop wanted £25 for one, which is scandalous. I got one for £6 from another shop, can't remember the code though. It's not a bulb you'll find in generic auto shops, you'll need to goto a bike shop and ask there.

Another thing is that if you do modify a H4 bulb to fit a grey nc30, without modifying the electrics, it'll eventually lead to a relay getting burnt out.
I can't remember the exact details, it's all on www.400greybike.co.uk

Doesn't have to be an actual laptop as it could a handheld Ipaq with a foldable keyboard to utilise internet access.

Calm down, i never meant you were faking it. It was just a bit wierd how you kept saying you were miles from home and needed advise, yet you were on the 'net.
