My Aprilia RS4 125 just began cutting out on idle, it will idle for 10 ish seconds then die. It starting doing this half way through a ride once the engine was warm, also when starting it back up it would backfire. It's due a valve clearance check, could this be the cause of the problem? thanks

Not familiar with aprilla but if it's fuel injected it would sound like the IAC idle air control valve if fitted on other makes e.g. honda you can do an IAC reset but means messing with ecu. Check youtube for aprilla reset or a learned member might put in a suggestion. This assumes the basics are right e.g. good spark, good compression, fuel pump working, spot on timing and valve clearances spot on. Start with the basics.

The bike seems to run fine through out the rev range, it's just the stuttery idle then cutting out which is strange. One of the times i restarted and set off it bucked badly which makes me think its more than a sensor or control valve.
