TLDR: After a recommendation for a rivet gun Question

After the other thread went down pretty well forks were helicoiled and survived the mot still not leaking so I must have done a good job.

Anyway I'm going to be modifying my single seat, cutting it down so it's much comfier. Now the leather is currently held on by pop rivets, I can drill them out but I was wondering if anyone can recommend a rivet gun Question

Is it worth going cheap or spend a bit more Question

3 inch throw riviters struggle with anything past 3/8ths of an inch. So you probably want a 4 inch throw one to do a 1/2 inch by 2 inch rivet. Get them really hot with oxy propane and they go In a bit easier.

Im not sure how a rivet gun or pop rivets would be any good for this?! you would normally use a pneumatic staple gun for seat upholstery. They are all pretty much the same, 15 quids or so, if you already have a compressor.

I did it with a manual gun, takes a lot more effort to get good result.

£15 from where?

A Tacwise 7116v which is pretty much the bench mark is about £70.

This is old bmw 1984 that they were trying to make a stand out product so they went all out braided lines as standard, brembo brakes and they used rivets on the seat base this is the single seat below.

For a seat I would just get a cheapo Halfords one. For steel rivets etc I would say get a lazy-tong or air riveter but you don't need those for a little job like that.

eBay cheapo has done fine for me for light duty like that.

An electric stapler gun should also do the trick unless that plastic is particularly hard. Mine bangs staples and nails deep into timber no trouble at all. Again, bargain basement stuff, no point in paying pro rates for a tool that you'll only use sparingly.

Yeah. Cheapo pop-rivett gun should do fine for that. Aluminium pop rivetts with nice big heads. The cheaper/less known the make, the flimsier it'll be.

I've got a bog standard draper one and it'll cope with alloy ones up to say 8mm diameter. It struggles with 5mm stainless ones, you really need to get both hands on and take a couple of bites at it then the shock runs up your arm as they pop. I wouldn't want to do a lot of those in a day.

Just don't get the meat of the palm of your hand between the two "legs" just at the point where it pops!

From a uk business, made in china - not shipped from china. 17 quid on ebay, delivered, or 15 through their online shop. I have bought many lathe bits from them, good quality.

I am not sure if you are disputing the price, quality/adequacy for the task, or the fact that most good things are manufactured in china, especially those with good branding.
