As daft as they look I have got my Jincheng M50 (Monkey bike) out of storage to use as a local commuter bike.
Been in the garage and not run for about 7 years.
Fired up after a few mins of kicking but a bit spluttery as the old petrol was shot.
Put new petrol in, replaced inline fuel filter and hoses to carb. Passed MOT without much trouble.
Starts and tics over fine, set off for work and after about 2 miles it died at the lights. Started after a few kicks and ran for another half a mile then after that it kept chugging and cutting out about every 100 metres and was a pig to start every time until I finally got to work.
Any ideas greatly appreciated. Smile

I would check the fuel flow to the carb, also did you strip and clean all the jet holes in the carb?

Not that technical when it comes to bikes (cars I'm fine with). When pulling hose from carb, petrol comes out, but not had carb off as only happened yesterday. Odd that it only does it once it gets hot after a mile or so and otherwise tics over fine.
How do you go about cleaning the jet holes or can I run something like Redex through it?
The monkey bike is pretty basic so I think I can also rule out any electrics.
Also to drain the carb you lay it on its side and it drains out of a pipe at the bottom. When it's hot and knackered nothing seems to come out which obviously implies the fuel is stuck somewhere once hot.

That sounds like an ignition coil breaking down when warm.

ok, thanks. Looking at other forums, that's something that has been mentioned before. Where is it and is it easy to replace?

Follow the spark plug lead from the spark plug. The other end is the coil.

Thanks, will take a look tonight, will I be able to see if it's cracked or anything or is it just a case of replace it and see if that fixes it?

It will be internal damage that you can't see, resulting in the coil(s) inside and/or the connectors to teh outside losing contact with each other when it expands as it heats up.

There isn't really any way to test for this. The traditional way to check it is to borrow a known good one and trying it and see if the problem goes away. Then buy a new one....

Before you shell out on a new coil, another quick thing you could try (as it has a tiny tank) is to ride it until it stops, then undo the fuel cap - if you can hear air rushing in, then your tank breather is partially blocked.

A new cap or breather pipe fixes the problem.
