Hope you are all having a good BHW Bank Holiday Weekend, just a quick one:

Any recommendations for a small tire repair kit to pop under the seat.

There are many out there, so would rather go for one that has been recommended.

Current one in the back tyre has seen 1000 miles and 120mph.
People seem to have equal success with the mushroom and the stringy ones. The biggest difference seems to be in the application, do it wrong and they're all equally bad.

Not all punctures are repairable at all if something goes in at an angle.
That little kit with included CO2(?) inflation seems worth having if there's space under the seat.

The kits are good problem is the person using it. You'd be better off with rac cover.

I prefer the string kit.

If you use a canister, put your glove back on. The canisters freeze as they vent the gas.
I also carry a small airman pump in my bag as the canisters will get some air back into your tyre, probably enough to limp to a petrol station. I'm basing that on a 190 rear.

I switched to mushrooms after having two strings fail in a puncture. The mushroom held.

I've gone for one of these, as it seems to get a lot of recommendations here on BCF, and BCF recommendations haven't let me down so far. I have never had to use a puncture repair kit of any description, except for one time many years ago when I didn't have one, and a helpful courier got me out of trouble by using his kit for me. So I'm probably quite capable of doing it wrong, although it looks simple enough.

I carry the Stop and Go kit for touring. Yes it is expensive and there are cheaper options out there but it has everything you would need to get you on your way again if you do get a puncture. Or at least mobile enough to limp to the nearest garage and call for help.

Plus the instructions are laminated in case you have to repair when its raining. They thought of everything!

It feels a bit strange making the hole bigger, but don't be afraid to ream it out thoroughly. Once your little mushroom is popped into the gaping hole, you need to tug it out good and hard to achieve closure.

I used a string kit on my recent puncture (it was all I could scrounge). It held up fine for the ride home.

As already said though those little gas cans will only get 20-odd PSI in your rear so just enough to limp you to a garage. If you plan on being any real distance from a garage you'll also want a small compressor or more gas cans.

How many canisters for a completely flat tyre? (180/55/17)

You should have splashed out and bought the deluxe kit, it comes with a gazebo and someone to fix it for you while you relax!

No, I couldn't. I've only ever used the Rema plugs I linked to. I like them, they work for me.
However I've read severable threads where they've been used incorrectly (user error or inappropriate punctures) and slated accordingly. My point is that I've read similar positive/negative threads on the strings and mushrooms.

You still in a bad mood because you got pay raped? Laughing

+1 for the stop & go kit. I carry one after Ollie helped me with one on my rear tyre. 3 cylinders inflated it enough to get to a air line. I carry a mini powered pump as well now.

I now carry the Stop and Go kit following BCF recommendations (never had to use it yet), but reading the above I wonder whether the 'mushrooms' are less suitable for angled punctures than 'string' repair kits?

As it happens I need to replace my tyres very shortly, and when I do I'm going to have a practice with the puncture kit at home in the warm, dry, garage, to see how I get on with it.

12v pump will fit underseat, beats cannisters.

A bike was here for a front tire swap yesterday. He didnt realise both were flat. 15psi front ad 10psi rear Shocked
