In real life, sure, I'd use as much of the the road as possible. It's not their lane.
On test, which is what I suspect you may be asking about, I'd sit in the middle of the lane and wait patiently for the exit to be clear. The more time you can legitimately waste, the better. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Given the small number of cars, I would just wait...
Increase that to 7 or more cars and I would probably filter up and take the left like pudder has said.
Its there and empty. Use it ____________________ 1993 RF400R - 2002 Bandit 1200 - 2012 1250 FA |

Yes,I mean the 'rule' not what we'd all do,if you see what I mean:
If you're in a car,you must wait outside/behind the box junction [wich it is now]
until the exit is clear or enter only if oncoming is preventing you turning right,or by other vehicles waiting to turn right'....
So the car in the box, if he's doing a right,is legal [in a yellow box junction] but shouldn't be in the 'Keep Clear' no matter which way he's turning??
That aside, you are right Rog in my thinking because of a 'test' situation :I've never found a satisfactory answer to whether the bike [if he pulls up alongside [but whats the point anyway?] is breaking a 'rule/law' by not waiting for the exit to be clear?....
As I said, there's no gain really,I just wait outside the box until they bugger off,but I mention it as an 'instructor' was giving me grief in the ear going 'go on go on' ,and I ignored it and waited until the exit was clear.I think he was wrong.I stayed where I am sure an examiner would wish to see me positioned, holding my space [we were doing a right] just slight right of centre and waiting for my turn at the 'Give Way'..
Also another thing, which is kind of related to the first situation:Say you filter up front to a 'Stop' at the lights and they're on red and when they change, did you know it is illegal to overtake the 'lead' car?? [the one you pull up next to at the lights],I mean in real life I always do it,the whole point of getting up there in the first place is to 'loose' them behind, isn't it?!!...But maybe not on the Test then, but worth knowing,if only for that reason, because I didn't know that.....! |

I'd just be very careful at that junction, simply because that's where I saw a GSXR 600/750 burning to death last year and the place being pumped with foam from the blue watch lads.
Maybe it's a cursed junction for bikes?
Seriously, there's a high school and primary school very near there, so at peak times they'll be loads of dozy parents looking everywhere except where they are going, and moody teens walking across the road in front of traffic like it's invisible. |

alright mate, yes I know what you mean.....But the point is I'm not talking about 'this' junction,it could be anywhere in the country, not this specific one,if you see what I'm saying...I just used it to illustrate my question on the 'rule/law' concerning bikes at these type of junctions....Blimey,that GSX was unlucky as it's a fairly tame junction to be honest, loads of good view of the road, left or right, but as you say it very much depends on the time of day...I generally try and avoid the school run's wherever possible, but I find if you aim carefully, they soon get out the way.....! |
