Xr 125l

Hi I'm new to this so hope this is working. My son has blown his 2005 xr 125 pretty badly because the piston melted in the cylinder head completely f#>*ed it. I can't find a replacement and and Honda want stupid money. My question if anyone could help a CG 125 looks identical but the part numbers are different does anyone know if it will fit??? Thanks for any help 👍

CG is actually a different engine from I remember. One is OHV, the other OHC.

You'll have done more than the piston if it's been run without oil, a new engine is a safer bet.

I think from 2004 the XR used a push rod that is identical to a CG but just wondered if anyone knew any different. Thanks for the replys any more is appreciated.

When I rebuilt my XL125, (OHC), the label on the box said it was suitable for an XL and a CG.
If you can use the same piston for a push rod engine on an OHC, I would guess the CG piston would be fine in the XR!

Think I'll give it a go, the CG seem to be easier to get hold of. I'll repost how it goes. Hopefully get some pictures.

I gave up on the cylinder in the end and bought a whole new engine. From what I've spoke to people about the XR125 L FROM 2004 onwards used a pushrod engine the same as the CG??????

don't scrap the old engine, pictures of the head and damage, buggered camshaft bearing ???

the old engine will be a source of some parts probably, see cmsnl for exploded views which can only help you. Strip down for the experience/practise, and see what special tools you may need, flywheel remover, a proper one not a 3 leg bit of crap. The 3 leg bit of crap have their uses but not this particular one.

Both items well worth the relatively small expense.

The peg spanner socket, they are needed in various sizes, an mtx engine needing 2 sizes, but as said they are relatively easy to make particularly if you have a new nut for pattern.

The old ones usually being mangled by the last owner.

It is possible to remove the slotted nuts without mangling them too much.
