Cheap 3D printer

I didn't have a problem with the power supply but decided to change it just in case and also added the two mosfets. I did have the burn bed connector on Sunday which I then sorted out this week.

Using Octoprint on a raspberry Pi connected to the printer is great. Allows you to monitor and control your printer without having to mess about with the SD card. Really good addition to it

Hows the printing coming along peoples?

I'm looking at picking up an A8/E10 in the near future but it seems there are more than a few knock offs floating about these days.

I'm keen on the larger printing areas and am aware some tinkering/printable mods are required but is there anything better out there for the money (A8 around <£150? E10 aroun,d £200?).

CR10 seems to be the fave at the moment at the budget end with 300x300x400 mm print size. I know Wanhao are also coming out with a larger printer but not sure on the price. A well dialed in A8 seems to do its thing rather well

At the risk of sounding middle class, on Christmas day, at in laws house - we had a go on some medieval and Elizabethan wind instruments. Not originals of course.

Some of them....... had been made on a 3D printer.

thanks for the info and listing, I am watching that A8 now. One of the things that had stopped me purchasing was the "brands" or not so to speak not knowing enough about this hobby but it is almost time for the garden railway construction to start so hopefully.....

only just dropped across this thread, useful info and pjay seems to know what they're talking about, was tempted to pick up an anet a8 as they seem to come recommended after a few modifications and self printed upgrades. I'm completely new to 3d printing but patient with tech and prone to tinkering and picking stuff up quickly.

That's reminded me to update.
I got the printed mentioned above, it's a knock off but a good one to be fair.
Hooked it up to repitier, found a model, leveled the bed and hit the go go button, came out great.
I've since added a few upgrades (belt tensioners, wheels to aid leveling the bed, strain relief chains and a mosfet for the heated bed) but it hasn't cost much and it's worked out much better than hoped, even using the cheapest PLA I can find.

One note, the PSU did short and go pop, they refunded me £25 so I bought a 360w for £14... Worth the inconvenience...

I did buy a silly cheap kg of abs (around £7 posted) form here.

Sold out now, looks alright, isnt to brittle but I'm not geared up for an abs print yet, will report back once I've tried it...

mine aint printed in 2 weeks now ......the roll of PLA just snapped between the spool to the head on its own as I was browsing BCF It has been sitting on the printer since christmas tho and 3/4 used...Guess the printer is hinting it needs to do some work!!

Brittle filament suggests absorbed moisture, whack it in a fan assisted oven on low for a few hours (<70c for pla)... or so I've been told...

it does sometimes for sure, but in this case it was just the tension twisting the PLA between the reel and the head had caused it to go brittle as the rest still on the reel was ok and not brittle! I only just found out this happens via the forums as I also thought..winter and exposed filament meant I'd be printing with steam also!

so far so good with mine, printer a number of parts for the printer and a small item for my lad

Print quality seems to be consistent and only had one session where I had any issues (no sticking to the bed but i'd set the bed too low)

still experimenting with different settings in cura though
