Clutch Problems - Slipping at high revvs

I have an RS125, and the clutch is slipping over 7000RPM.
Any advice on how to fix??

There should be an adjuster on the lever?

You can adjust it at the bottom aswell, just follow where the clutch cable goes.

Replace the plates.....
It hasn't had fully synthetic oil put in it has it??
or 'Slick50' oil treatment??

and Jonny, its not had a drop of cheap oil.
I was told it could be springs which need replacing, but if its plates, are they easy to replace myself??

By oil i presume you mean gear oil??

I use the silkolene light gear oil, and last changed it 2000kms ago.

what did you mean by fully synthetic and slick50 treatment?

Fully synthetic oil has properties in it which will reduce friction, if this is put near a wet plate clutch it will create it to slip at higher revs as will 'Slick 50' though i doubt the latter will have be added to a 2 stroke bike.

i use the fully synthetic stuff which everyone else uses on their RS125's (that i know of).

Ash T, please please read the application list for the Silkolene oils on this link, it states FULLY SYNTHETIC for racing machines WITHOUT wet clutch........SEMI SYNTHETIC for bikes WITH wet clutch, just double check you did use the 'Light' oil and NOT one of the others

Its Silkolene Light Gear Oil. As reccomended by craig and everybody on the 125cc forum

OK, i sit corrected then. Maybe it has had a damn good thrashing from you and its died of natural causes.

Well i must admit, i did give the bike a good raping on sunday
It was the local charity egg run, and afterwards,we went to an industrial estate and had a few drag races.
Oh dear....is it best to get it booked into a garage, or is it a straightforward job to replace plates?

As I said, It might not be dead..... Try adjusting at the bottom and go from there. Adjust the lever in first and then you will have some more play in the lever adjuster when it starts to slip again.

Yeh, its most common with little clutches, you need to slip them quite a bit don't you ?? ya know, to get the weight rolling.

Yeah..Lots of clutch if you want to get anywhere in a hurry on a 2t.

If ZXR400er's suggestion doesent work, il motor on down to the local 2t specialist and see what hes got. Its a good thing i got the day off tomorrow.

Are they easy to fit??

Dunno personally BUT if you get really stuck then my brother owns a motorcycle shop / workshop in Stockport and you could bell him and ask his advice. PM me and i'll give you his number, he used to race 2 strokes and was Champion 125 classic racer a couple of years back so he'll know what he's doing LOL

Check the adjustment. There should be a little free play in the lever. There is an adjuster by the lever and another inside the clutch cover. Undo the plug in the middle of the clutch cover and you will find a small screw with a lock nut, and you use this to adjust the clutch.

Not had any problems using synthetic car oil in bikes I have used it it. That it is synthetic is not the problem, it is any friction inhibitors that have been added, so that depends on the make of oil really.

The Aprilia clutches are fairly tough, but it is possible that you have wrecked it. They are quite easy to change, but you will have to drain the oil. Take off the clutch over and the whole clutch basket will just come off in your hand (this is not like other bikes), then I think it is 6 bolts holding that all together and you can take the plates out of the basket. Leave the new plates soaking in oil before you fit them.

When you reassemble it be careful to check that the shift mechanism under the clutch cover is correctly located as otherwise it will be bent when you put the cover back in place.
