Help!!! Doh!

I am looking for a tire that is long lasting (mileage, 7000 to 8000 plus…) and will do well on long trips and in bad weather (Rain). Which of the tires, listed below, do you people think would be the best tire for what I am looking for? Your experience or knowledge would be very helpful in me making my decision. Thanks all for you help!!!

Avon AV45/AV46 ST?

Dunlop D220?

Metzeler Sportec M-1?

Bridgestone BT020?

Conti Road Attack?

Michelin Pilot Road?

first off, why the bold big letter ?

Anyway, if you can get a tyre to last 8000 miles on a bike you'll be in the Guiness book of records.

I have a continental on the back, a conti-sport or something like that.

That's designed to be a very hard wearing tourer tyre.

There is NO WAY that you will get a tyre to last 8000 miles.

No way??? I'm sure there are some brands out there that are made to last. Anybody else have any input?

Thanks.

Not allowed animated avitars.... Don't buy a tyre because you want it to last Confused It needs to be a good tyre for grip if your putting it on a nice bike like that, If you can't afford the tyres buy a cheaper bike. Laughing

Some of the tyres available are dual compound, the center is able to take more wear than the sides, i.e. touring tyres... thing is a zxr is going to eat whatever you put on probably...

8000 miles? where are you planning on going? Shocked

The guy who traveled the world on an R1 (i think) would be interesting to see what his tyre choice was...

I agree, a bit unrealistic to expect that many miles from your rubber. I had BT020's and they lasted me around 4K.

I run the Avon ST on the back of mine with an SP front

the rear has done 2000+ miles and about 5 drag race meetings

I also know someone who can get 6,000 miles plus from an ST on a busa

and he's no slouch, he is an ex-racer and very, very smooth, his tyres wear evenly too, right up to the edge Wink

the ST is plenty sticky for normal riding (although I wouldn't put one on the front) and there are some superb deals around too

I'm proof too that 9k is possible + more from an AV45/46 combo and i do NOT ride like a pussy on my Blackbird, the tyres are rock hard but shit in the wet........

I get 4k from my 010/011e combo and i cannot fault them.
I used to get about 6-7k from 020's on my old ZX10'b'

I had my AVON Azzaro's fitted in May 2004 and have done 2000 very high speed miles through France, Belgium and Holland then back, 2 up + luggage and they didn't lose their profile Shocked . Since then i have done another 7k and they are nearly ready for replacement (back to 010/011)

I was having a chat to my old instructor last week and he said he got ...wait for it......

12,000 miles out of his Bridgestone BT020's.

Bearing in mind they were on a Triumph Trophy used for pottering around Portsmouth instructing learners.

I was gobsmacked!

I only ride 020's now. They are great in the wet and last me 6000 miles usually. I believe that there are longer lasting tyres out there, but they usually have less grip in the wet. As I see it, the harder wearing a tyre, the less cold/wet grip.

As far as I'm concerned, I would rather have that extra grip. Save a few quid on tyres - spend a few hundred when you can't stop as quickly as you need.

I use BT020 on my 1999 CBR600. I have had up to 12k miles out of the front and almost 9k miles out of the back tyres. Most of my miles are on the motorway commuting but with a few hundred miles every weekend on A roads.
I've had BT010s before and the BT020s give an extra 1 or 2k miles. I've not noticed any difference in handling.
I now have ultraseal in the tyres. This is to protect against punctures, primarily from filtering in cross hatched areas that never get swept. However I've heard that some people have experienced increased tyre tread life with ultraseal. I can't imagine how this works, but I'll be able to give you my own report in 4 or 5 months.

Ive got a scooter and Its got Bridgestone 140 rear, 130 front. I pay £35 a tyre! The back one lasts about 4k and the front lasts forever! Cool

But then who wants a scooter! Confused

Hi

1200 Bandit in general road use I get around 9000~10000 miles from a rear tyre. Get rather less from the rear tyre on the RS125.

Lots of things affect tyre life, especially the load they are taking. I am quite light which probably helps.

All the best

Keith

Thanks for the great reviews all. Sounds like a good tyre to go with is the 020. I might give the Avon's a try also. Would love to hear of others peoples views. Thumbs Up Have a g-day.
