What's crawled up your arse?

One day when you get a bigger bike your views will change. Mr C, I believe, goes to straightliner events so his 187Bhp is totally relevant.

I'm a bit confused as how to reply to your post. But i disagree with it...

Yeah I know, thats where his 201 MPH comes from right? Just using that as an example. Just pisses me off because people get walked over for having bikes they have to have because of restrictions.

The point has become lost in my inability to get it across.

IT PISSES ME OFF THAT PEOPLE HAVE A GO AT 50CC AND 125CC OWNERS BECAUSE THEY MODIFY THEIR BIKE AND THEN WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE RESULTS.

Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to get some quick riding in, but until then, I don't want to be shat on by big bike owners because I own a 50 and a 125.

Maybe the derestricted scooter has relevance to those who ride them? The same goes for the 'busa or whatever, or those who have a general interest in fast machines.

Idea Maybe that should tell you something about the character of the people having a pop at the 50cc and 125cc owners then, assuming they're serious in having a dig?

You'll probably find most of the posts about bigger bikes being faster are aimed at 16-17 years olds who want to spend an absolute fortune making their 50cc or 125cc just that little bit faster. In reality, if you're going to move onto bigger bikes when you're older, it's false economy, which means they are only trying to advise you to save money and spend it wisely.

That, I'm afraid, only comes with experience, something which judging by the rant you started with you have had that much of.

I'm not taking the piss out of 50cc or 125cc bikes, I've had both in the past. But I didn't bother doing anything to make then faster because, what's the point?

It invalidates your insurance, can cause untold mechanical problems in the medium to long term. Whereas you could save the cash over a 12-24 month period and buy a bigger bike and have more fun.

Like I said, its just a case of experience.

I can't speak for anyone else, but here's my rant on the matter.

Scooters, bikes, whatever, who cares how fast they go? The only time anyone really cares is if they're specifically there to go fast.

All that matters to me is that it should be able to get to 80 without taking all day about it. My bike can't. We shouldn't care any more about scooters than we should care about superbikes.

Wow, a scooter does 60mph.. Big deal. Illegal too. I don't care how fast your scooter goes. I don't care how fast Mr. C's ZX12 goes. I am interested to see him breaking the 200 mph barrier, because that's of some symbolic significance.

A bike's a bike. Be they slow, fast, four stroke, two stroke, shiney, ratty, lime green, red, black, even yellow... They all have two wheels, they all have engines and they're all two fingers up to the society which expects everyone to drive cars. Bikes are created equal, just some are more equal than others.

Riders on the other hand, are not. Riders are people, and you get all the arseholes amongst riders as you do in any other walk of life. Generally I don't like arsehole people, be they riders or not. Arsehole people often have opinions and ideas, and one of those ideas is modifying a moped primarily by bolting on a whole pile of cack from Halfords, creating a nuisance and damaging the image of bikers everywhere.

If you can use your ingenuity to produce more horsepower with the engine of anything, and make the vehicle better at fulfilling its purpose, then it gets my approval. Covering a moped in neons and talking bullshit about it is not improving the vehicle.

Take that Lotus Esprit that was in the Photos section. Take one beautiful car, and wreck it. It's just wrong, just like stupid people with more money than sense wrecking and breaking new bikes. Many people put a lot of time and effort into designing and building a machine, to wantonly destroy it is criminal.

Deliberately wreck any machine and I'll be seriously unimpressed.

The fact is that people are not going to get excited about tuning a bike and getting 8bhp. Why? Because it's ludicriously easy to buy a bike on the market that will have more power. Now go out and try and find a bike to buy that has 499bhp.

You can't have a go at people for getting excited about power outputs... and then use one as an example Rolling Eyes Getting 499bhp out of a bike is a hell of an achievement. Whether people think it's relevent to everyday life, is irrelevent. The point is the engineering that achieved it.

Thats more illegal than us speeding since you're supposed to be restricted to 30mph until you're 17, so that means you're unlicensed and your insurance is invalid.

I originally thought about this because a member of this forum was replying to a new member and saying

"If you have a 50cc or a 125cc we really don't care how fast it goes and if you feel the need to post pictures you can if you want"

The arrogance of this pisses me off. People need to shut up about other people's bikes and accept them for what they are. Sorry about the post at the top, went overboard with the point. Doesn't matter about speed or what you ride, it's the attitude with which you ride it with.

Hmmm... It's turbo charged isn't it?

No biggee, now getting 1500 HP out of a 1.5 litre, back in the 80's, that was special. And getting it to last for 2 hours of racing, thats engineering.

To be bluntly honest I couldn't give a shit how fast bigger bikes are, because the speed limit is 70 MPH and unless you are on a track (in which case it is cornering ability that matters most) you are breaking the law by using it at higher speed.

Are you saying that you don't like it because people would be breaking the law?

99% of tuned peds are ridden illegally all the time. Should they be ignored?

Quote:
For example turbo hayabusa has 499 HP and everyone says wow.

Because it took a lot of technical inovation?

8hp from a 50cc + engine isn't really that much.
You can buy a bike with a 40cc engine with about 12hp stock.

Also a big bored bike is pushing various limits. A tuned moped seems to be just a worse example of a bigger bore scooter you can buy in the shops.

Saying all that, I haven't seen that much of the attitude you have mentioned.
A lot of people come on here telling us how fast their peds go. If a lot of people came on here and told us their big bikes did over 200mph they would most probably get the same treatment.

Are you suggesting it's easy to get 500bhp out of Busa? I don't think adding a Turbo alone will get you anywhere near that (someone in the know put us right here...) That's before you start trying to make rideable.

This bike puts out 370bhp - with a fair bit more than just a turbo, and still a fair way off 500bhp.

I agree with that, It's just that turbocharging seems kind of a wussy way of getting 500 horses out of a 1.3 (is it?) I prefer supercharging. Besides my model car engine produces 2HP with 2cc which equates to 1000HP per litre (sure it has to rev to 35,000rpm to do it, but surely that is just engineering, non?). Why aren't you singing the praises of that?

Turbocharging is supercharging. The only difference is the means of driving the compressor. Mechanically driven superchargers (lets just call them superchargers for ease of use) will only run as fast as you can gear the engine to make them run, and will work from a standstill. Turbine driven chargers (turbochargers) will run as fast as the bearings can take, provided you can design them to take full advantage of the exhaust gas flow.

As to which is wussy or not, that's just a bollocks argument. They both do the same job, with advantages and disadvantages attached to each. Horsepower is reasonably irrelevant. What actually matters is the definition of horsepower, which is torque multiplied by the rotational speed. How much torque you have at what engine speed is what counts, and is what you design your gearbox to suit.

We aren't singing the praises of remote control cars engines, because we aren't interested in them for the most part. I admire the engineering, but I'm not interested in remote control cars suitably to ever even come into contact with one to admire.

Producing 500 bhp from a 1300cc I4 engine is not wussy, no matter how you do it. That's assuming you can even do it.
