Bike lockup chain for when out.

Just started, with biking so please be patient.

Bike is garaged at home, big f** off chain, bolt style fully hardened padlock. Padlock alone weighs a couple of lbs . Anyway this is all good for when at home.

However I only have a little flimsy thing for when going to work, not really a problem as I am lucky as I can park my bike in a locked warehouse at work. (You know its about 8 or 9mm like what you'd lock up a push bike).

However I am now wanting to go out, to town, bit of shopping etc. Now I am looking for something say less than £20, that is light enough to either carry or rap round at back, that offers some protection.

Can anyone suggest anything, everything I see either looks to flimsy or is too heavy.

To me it looks like 30 seconds with a hack saw.

I payed £30 for my lock, similar to the abus things...

One major bit of advice, don't go for one with a barrel type lock (i.e. lik the one in the pic) theres been some serious problems with them (you can open allot of them with a biro)

Big heavy chain is the order of the day, arround the frame and onto something secure like a lamp post e.t.c.

Never seen any great locks for £20 tho... ebay or local small/independant bike shop

I don't and won't carry chains and locks around in my bag/pockets anymore.

I just use a u lock and a disk lock under my seat.

But I do have that lock you link to as well, and use that for locking at night.(amongst others)

To be honest, you're right. Its not tough at all

I use a grip lock, small as a disc lock and no risk of rideing off with it attached, the handguards means it would be impossible or bloody difficult to get it off without the key (its hard enough with it)

The thing with the cg is two reasonably burley blokes could lift it right up and take it wherever they wanted, hence the locking it down to something, but then why a cg? mainly pikeys and kids will try stealing it, just any lock will do, disc lock might be the better bet (assumeing your is the disc brake model )

By grip lock do you mean the yellow thing that holds your brake lever? If so, sorry but I could not recommend it. My brother had one and gave it to me to use on an old GPZ500 which was not running at the time. It did nothing to stop the little scrotes in East Dulwich from removing it and taking said bike. I found the bike later in a nearby park. If only they had known the engine had seized. All that work for nowt!

Once again, grip locks do not work!

No its a 51 plate with drums i'm affraid, yeahh I know you could lift the bike, have done so myself.

What's the abus lock?
