How much is a new pair pair of handlebars? How much is other stuff to do this job going to tally to? Does it need new bar ends, or levers too?
Once you start unhooking cluch or throttle cable and see how furred up they are and try oiling them, or replacing adjusters, or looking at fretted cable and dinged nipples, or or or whats the limit on how far you go, and how much you renew vs what you service or salvage.. and how much in total will a 'little' job like this likely ultimately come to?
A new pair of grips, is anywhere for £3 to £30... a pair of simple OE rubber grips, likely better than the ones fitted as OE on behalf of Lexmoto, are probably only £5-7....
For what they are worth, I would use a stanley blade to get the old ones off... and fit new ones with the glue likely supplied with them!
Dropping a motorbike when the LH grip slides off the bars, is rather more galling than finding a couple of extra quid to do do job justice, IME!!!
Trying to re-use old grip? IME is just futile and frustrating; if they are worth saving to start with, chances of them coming off 'good' is not wonderfully high, and will take as much time as they are worth, faffing with a kettle of hot water to try soften them, levering under them with a tea-spoon, patiently trying to twist or unroll them etc etc etc... and if they DO come off... odds that they'll go back on with as little hassle, and stay there, remain pretty much in the lap-of....
For a Fiver?........ Is it REALLY worth even trying? ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

I've always used hairspray and have never had them move. Fitted a new set of fat grips to the bullet just the other day.
I wonder if people are degreasing things properly first? ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Yes, parraffin is the problem. I used brake cleaner on a rag last time because I've run out of electrical contact cleaner. Isoprop will do a similarly good job and is less likely to damage the rubber if you get it on the grips themselves. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink.
